Broken clutch pedal

Featured Replies

So i was driving home from work today and i put my clutch down, and then it wouldn't come up, and when it did it sprung up, pulled over and investigated, called my brother (vw technican) and it looks like ive snapped some part off my clutch pedal that connects the end of the clutch to the pedal.. so now im towing it to Vw tonight to be fixed... fun times.

Anyone heard of this before? or happend too? lol

cheers.

Normally an octy1 fault but quite common

fair enough, cheers.

Had this myself. Let the missus drive the car and she gets in and says what's wrong with your clutch pedal? it's disappeared

You will probably notice the rod has pushed through a bit of metal box on the side of the clutch pedal. This is due to some rather poor welding on this compenent. You may need to remove the lower dash to get at the pedals.

You need to get the clutch pedal off, bend the flap of metal back into place (to cover the end of the box section) then put a proper weld to held it in place. There's a plastic insert inside this box section that holds the rod in place. You'll need to remove this before welding ( I had to replace mine as I broke it cost me 90p). There is a compression spring behind the pedal, so you'll need to compress that to remove and then replace the pedal.

I'm sure there's a guide round here, it's fairly simple to do.

yea cheers mate, hope fully should be sorted, have not got the use to a welder so i think im going to buy the new pedal (£16 from skoda) and that clip for £1 so it shouldn't be to costly, cheers for the advice.

Same thing happend to me got my brother to weld it bk on but a lot better so it won't brake again.

same thing happened to me a few weeks ago half way through a 3000 mile roadtrip across france. was stuck in middle of nowhere. nice local mehcanic welded it back together for me, seems ok now other than clunk/ click when you take your foot off the pedal.

  • 1 month later...

The clunk/click may mean the clutch rod hasn't seated properly into the plastic insert inside the box section on the clutch pedal arm. Whe I refitted mine the clutch kep coming up to high as a result and was allowing the return spring to over extend.

It eventually sorted itself out as the platc insert would have worn a little so the rod seated correctly, but you may want to have a look to see if that's an issue with yours.
