Can I find out the real milage on a clocked Octavia2 using VagCom?

Featured Replies

I want to buy a Skoda Octavia 2 and I know that the car has been clocked. How can I find out the real milage? Any ideas? Thanks

Find a local willing person with vcds

It really is very simple using VCDS, I know because i had it done for me to prove the 2008 Octy i bought from a main franchised dealer had been clocked, My son and me now own our own copy of VCDS and the ross tech lead, We recently bought another car for my daughter in law and also a superb for my son. We told the people selling that run VCDS on them first to confirm the mileage, and also scan for error codes. Both sellers were only too happy to let us do that and both cars checked out 100% and as such both cars were bought.

Yes its dead easy to read the true mileage from the main ECU, the value is stored in KMS so you'll need to divide the stored value by 1.6 to get the miles. The ECU figure is not the value displayed by the instrument cluster and it cannot be altered backwards.

Actually I think you can only read the mileage if the car uses ECU EDC15 or EDC16.

How much does VCDS & any ancilleries cost and where can you get it from?

Thank you everyone for your replies. I will try to find someone with VCDS in Harrow or nearby.

From here http://www.ross-tech.com/

Has the car had any MOT tests? If so, go on line and check what is recorded there. I recently saved one of my sons from buying a Golf being sold with a current MOT nearing renewal, but which also had a very recent MOT fail for major structural damage underneath which was not readily visible.

How do you check it with VCDS?

I part-ex'd my old Octavia with the private seller of my current one. I scanned both cars in front of the other guy to give us both peace of mind.

How do you check it with VCDS?

A simple scan should provide the details.

Can anyone help me with a VCDS scan in or near London?

It really is very simple using VCDS,

And if it's been clocked correctl the VCDS will read the same as the displayed miles. .

No it will not, it is not possible to alter the mileage figure stored in the ECU backwards.

Can anyone help me with a VCDS scan in or near London?

north,south,east or west London?

Can anyone help me with a VCDS scan in or near London?

Probably too far, but I am in Folkestone.

Alternatively come along to the Maidstone meet on the 4th August and I will bring my VCDS.

Sorry Petetdi....north-west London (Harrow) but I can travel anywhere not to far from London to get a VCDS scan. I realy want to know when to change the cambelt but I don't know the mileage on the car...and I don't want to spend £350 on the cambelt kit and labour before the old one gets "to old". I have the full Skoda service history on it up to 80k miles including a new cambelt at 78k but I suspect that the car has been clocked at least 20k miles. Anyway the trader who sold me the car got busted by the trading standard agency and now I am waiting for a £500 refund.

Thank you for reading this and I am sorry for any mistake found in text :D :-)
