Sorry if I am being dumb here guys (won't be the first time) but I've have seen mention in some other posts about the ability of (a/some) Bluetooth connected phones to be able to handle and display (screen or maxi dot) text messages.........or have I got that wrong? Can anyone help? I'm an iPhone 4 user by the way.

Many thanks

It's not the phone but the Bluetooth module that dictates this feature.

I believe you need a BT module with rSAP such as the 5N0 ... D module.

I believe this feature is only available with phones connected via rSAP (remote SIM Access Protocol) as my 2009 Superb II with Nokia phone rSAP connected certainly supported text messaging, but current 2012 with iPhone 4s and bluetooth connection does not.

Thanks chaps, much clearer. Appreciate all the help.

No, It's the phone! you need a phone with rSAP (Remote SIM Access Protocol)This system, effectively shuts-down the phone, as a phone. The Bluetooth reads the SIM cards info, and the car becomes the phone. You then have access to TXT's.However, you have no access to Email, FaceBook, Messenger etc etc. iPhone (and iPhone) does not support rSAP - Nor does new Android (as standard) such as the Galaxy S3. - Your iPhone can connect via HFP (Hands Free Protocol) and is still acting as a phone.Hope this helps! Al.

Fair point that I overlooked.

But we are both correct as not all BT modules (and phones) utilise rSAP.

All BT units in mk 2 Superb "Can" use rSAP - It's just Not all units have HFP.

Al.

so if I buy a new superb estate elegance for Oct delivery will I:

a. be able to use rsap if I find a suitable handset

b. anybody currently got good rsap handset?

c. How do you read email then?

d. No HFP??? surely all new would have this?

Dealer says they have a list - but I am yet to see it! - guess they want the deal first...

a) Yes, but less and less handsets use rSAP

B) The best handsets were Nokia Phones, I used a 5110 (or something like that)

c) You can't read eMail only phone texts - and you could also send one (why I'll never understand), but selecting a character at a time

It came up on the maxidot display in front of the driver

d) As previous respondents have said rSAP read the SIM card and the Columbus unit became the phone

Contacts, texts, address book etc., all read nto Columbus memory

I don't see why HFP is an issue with rSAP usage as to me they are different protocols

It was very good, but when I changed phones I had to revert to Bluetooth and the features that provides - no texting

so if I buy a new superb estate elegance for Oct delivery

Only if the car has already been ordered, expect anything around 6 months depending on the spec.

That may be true for the UK, but I've seen pricelists for other countries (I think even in Germany) where also the cheaper models carkits were available in the S2. Only the top-of-the-range model has rsap.
