Anyone with a Fabia vRS fancy doing a deal on my Octavia? Or better still on the wife's A3 1.8T Sport? Due to the increased mileage the 'fleet' are being subjected to a diesel is the only answer I'm afraid.....

"fleet" as in your home fleet, or something implemented by your work?

Jason, 'fleet' in terms of the Jimmy family fleet and please don't get me started about work

is there no other way jimmy;) you will miss your octy!

you must be winding me up James :grumpy:

Get rid of the A3 Jim...you know it make sense. ;)

Nope definately not a windup :(

I've done 20k in the last year in the Octy and Swmbo does about 12k pa usually around town. The 1.8T motors aren't too bad on juice I must admit but I think now's the time for a diesel.

Yep, it's the estate one.

Trade the A3 in

Can't you trade them both in? Petrol really is very 20th Century: you should be able to get a couple of cars with proper engines...

Don't think these diesel mpg's are all they are cracked up to be.Seem to fill up the Fabia vRS as often as the Octy vRS but I suppose it's town driving.

Suppose if you are racking up the miles on fairly decent roads you would see a difference. Then again, the octy should be in the 40's for the mpg.

It's always a difficult call this.Didn't colin do a thread about having to do 55,000 miles before diesel ( the caviar priced fuel) becomes a viable option

Running costs are definitely better for diesels. At the moment, diesels have better residuals, similar service costs, lower insurance and higher MPG. I regularly get 53 mpg on the motorway, whilst sat at whatever speed the outside lane is going.

Lets have details of both cars then please.

Octavia - vRS Estate, 2003, 25k miles, black magic, 18" RS6 wheels, Jabba re-map, S3 strut braces, 2 x new front tyres, Forge 007P, FSH, usual refinements, excellent condition.

Audi - A3 1.8T Sport (150 bhp), 1998, 65k miles, metallic silver, private plate (A3 ???), 65k miles, bog standard, 2 x new front tyres, just serviced, T&T, climate control, 6 disc CD, vgc.

The Audi is a much, much better car imo and should be snapped up by someone ;)

At least your not getting rid of your vRS to buy a diesel to tow a caravan :o

Was going to ask the dealer if he'd preffer a standard exhaust at the weekend aswell ;)

Darren, still ask the dealer as that might sway the decision in favour of chopping the Audi in (my preferred option tbh) :)
