That mooing noise in reverse....again

Featured Replies

Hi, I know this topic has come up several times previously but I'm struggling to source the parts that other members have found: 6X0 698 998 and 1J0 698 998....in order to stop the mooing/groaning noise every time I reverse.

I've got saved searches on ebay and have trawled the net with no joy. Admittedly I havent contacted my local Skoda dealer, but thats because of the £100+ prices that were mentioned.

So, if anyone has recently purchased these kits at reasonable prices then please could you let me know?

Much appreciated!

Hi buddy, you will be very lucky to get reasonable prices other than what Skoda want because everybody is also trying to find a good price outside main dealer. As they are a main dealer part the only time they will come up for sale is when either someone has moved their car on and not got round to fitting them or some part supplier online does not know they are popular or they have excess stock which both are now very unlikely.

I waited for months to get mine at £35.

They do help a lot, but sometimes i still get the odd mooing but no way like it was.

The whole reason for the mooing is a combination of poor return of rear brake cable causing drag of pads and then the amplification of the sound through the rear beam.

You could try another alternative by using VW Sharan rear brake return springs as these force the cable bracket to return to the home position and thus should stop dragging. Some members have used these to good success. There is a thread on here about those.

these are P/N for left and right side

They spend the money because for the 30 seconds a day that they spend reversing they dont the world staring at them wondering where the godawful noise is coming from.....

Are you serious buddy... that mooing noise has got to be the most loudest and embassing noise ever.

I would of spent £100 in the end just to stop the 30 sec of sheer daily pain... :)

I find it a great aid in making the lemmings get out of the way when you're reversing lol

Fitted the mentioned springs a few months ago, the only time they moo (even then it's considerably less) is when it's been washed or driven in heavy rain, which means because I wash her every week and with the current "Summer" weather they moo all the time!!

Seriously it has cured the problem emoticon-0142-happy.gif .

Thanks Bowders 1, I'll start with the springs.....although whilst the wheels are off I might as well check the calipers for binding as well. Cheers.
