skoda roomster 1.9 diesel engine idle speed

Featured Replies

please can anyone tell me what the engine idle speed should be set at in a roomster 1.9 diesel engine my roomster runs away with me sometimes and can be very off putting and dangerious any help would be great--nedw

mine idles at 800-850rpm, in what gear does it run away? mine does it too but more pronounced in 2nd gear rather than in1st. but torquy diesels do a have tendency to do this. i have driven many diesel which do this and that don't, its the larger cc diesel engine that do it the most and smaller are more predictable at clutch release. i hate it too :) but you just have to mange the clutch more slowly, i know its a pain, me specially having a weak left foot due to an accident, can really get painful in slow traffic.

800 to 900 revs normally. When warmed up, it would be unusual for the "running away" to happen on my 1.9, but it's usual on my 1.6TDi and apparently is a characteristic of the set up.

In the old days of Diesel cars, the "running away" used to be common on the PSA XUD engines and used to be blamed on air ingress in the fuel line. These days it might be a cold start message to the ECU. What about consulting your dealer or a diesel specialist?

Throttle controls sometimes stick. Next time it happens put your toe under the pedal and pull it up. You won't feel any movement but see if that sorts it. Solution is a new control, but being an inveterate fixer (rather than changer) one day I'm going to take mine off and see if it neds a clean and lube.
