[Tools] Recommend me an Air Compressor Please

Featured Replies

been thinking about buying an air compressor, nothing expensive but just good enough to run air impact wrench to loosen wheel nuts and bolts around engine etc, tyre inflater.

i have a garage so it will go in there

not sure on budget, best value for money?

i saw some in costco a while back, il pop in this week to take a look at them again and also check prices

other options is an electric impact Drill?

i already own Halfords professional 150pc socket set - these ok to use on a impact wrench?

Sorry to be so vague!

thanks

You need at least a 3hp/50l compressor and a minimum of 10mm air hose/fittings to effectly run an impact wrench.

mega bucks then?? :)

It depends what else you need to use it for. Almost everything except an impact gun can be run from a 2hp/24l and they are cheap. These can cost as little as £80. Air ratchets, spray guns, blow guns, air file, inflater, etc, can all run with some duty cycle limitations.

An air compressor is a great investment. Once you have it air tools are relatively cheap. You do have make that decision about running an impact gun, as that determines what you need to buy. A good 3hp twin with a minimum of 10mm piping costs about £450+.

If you need a power tool to get wheel nuts off then something like http://www.machinema...c-impact-wrench would be a better/cheaper option.

Cheaper still is a telescopic wheel wrench such as http://www.machinema...ng-wheel-wrench

If they're Chrome Vanadium, probably not. They'll shatter after a few uses. Better to go for a proper set of impact sockets, perhaps something by Clarke from Machine Mart

You can of course use them with an air ratchet, as these are non-impact.
