induction kit/CAI on a stage 1 map..?

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls,

I do apologize if you have heard this all before (I am sure you have).

I am looking for a good CAI for my mk1 vRS. The car is currently stock save for an AMD stage 1 map. I just want to bring that quiet engine alive with a nice roar, at present it sounds about as sporty as a game of bowls.

Now I HAVE done a search and it appears a cone filter with a long cold air feed running from the bumper is the way to go (?).

Are there any ready made kits out there that will pop right in once my airbox is out?

I know there are probably better mods I can do power-wise but I'm not overly concerned with speed at present, (but I don't want to lose power mind!) I just want more character. My last car was a 450bhp GTO Twin Turbo which made your ears bleed on idle. I've grown up a bit since then but I still need a bit of a growl ;)

Advice/ videos/ suggestions/ anything much appreciated. Thanks guys.

iv just bought one of these for my vrs mate,,i also have a stage 1 remap..im going to replace the cone filter on this one with a quality brand tho... theres cai's on ebay for ALOT more money ,,but i guess its up for debate whether more money means more growl/power

Thanks for that Collyb,

Are you able to post up a video when you fit it? I can't seem to find any decent videos on youtube of Mk1 vRS with an induction kit.

I would love to see any videos of stationary and on the move to hear what it sounds like.

iv some old vids of my old vrs with a neuspeed p flo cold air intake ,,if you give me 5 min i will throw them up,,sound quality isnt too good,,but u will get the idea,,

Would appreciate that mate, thanks :)

not a great video mate,,but i think u can hear the extra whistle/whoosh noise the intake adds...anything to make a turbo louder is good in my books lol

i will also get a few pics or a vid up of the new one once i fit it

Thanks collyb, certainly sounds more aggressive than stock which is the aim of the game ;)

ya its sounded great..plus it made the standard dv give a nice whoosh without sounding to boy racer if u get me.....

My car was really quiet before I put an induction kit on, now has a nice warble at low revs and a bit more growl and you can actually hear the diverter valve dumping which turns a few heads... more often a double take as it's a skoda lol

haha ya i get the same mate,,iv been asked a million times how come your diesel octsvia sounds so good ,,,lol

Totally agree mate, I look forward to hearing and seeing your new one :)

Thats exactly what I am after mate, the stock 1.8T is a smooth and civilized thing which is good, but it can certainly do with a bit of extra character.

What you just said is Exactly what I'm looking for!

jazz what was the gto like ???? i had two baby gto's at one stage lol the good old fto gpx....

quite a few options out there. Alot of people dont like the filter low to the ground behind the bumper for fear of hydrolocking. But having a filter in the engine bay can get you alot of heat soak.

I have a custom kit for mine, puts my Simota filter directly behind my headlight with a ram induction. Stays dry, stays cool. WinWin.

If you was after a kit of any kind, give me or Rob (W8Performance) a PM.

heres my induction in question.

12.6mpg, thats what it was like. Good for Santa pod trips though, running early 12s. Was a good spec, sold it because I wasn't using it much and needed to start being sensible lol. Was fun having R8s struggling in your rear view mirror though ;)

carbon jobbie with filter behind bumper, no problems with water ingress and i live in scotland (its damp)

also run a forge 007p

to be fair its by no means epic but does sound a tad better than stock!!

Gee your engine bay is serious man,,time and money spent well there

Looks awesome Jase, really neat fit.

Loving these pics guys keep them coming, inspiration right there. :)

Cheers mate wanted it as stock as possible!

Need to change the red silicone at the bottom for a black one (some day)

running it behind the bumper is best for cold air flow and to date not seen one hydrolocked. but saying that if you drive through a a foot of water it might lol

ive ran all my cars in the front bumper and never had an issue and my cars are driven every day of the year without fail

i liked the abd unit but you cant get them for love nor money but back a few years ago it was the pipe to buy

example below
