First 10,000 miles; my thoughts so far

Featured Replies

Well I've now had Betty the Greenline Yeti for 4 months and she has now covered 10,000 miles, so i thought it would be good to review it at this first mile stone.

So here we go.

Prior to ordering the Yeti as a company car i had seen the Yeti in the press and at the local dealers and was smitten, I loved the tonker toy no nonesense styling and the quality of the interior, the driving position suited my 6ft 8" frame. A 48 hour test drive only confirmed my love for the Yeti and the time came last October to place my order. As I do a lot of mileage I opted for the Greenline in Elegance spec, and becuase of the CO2 levels it gave me a much lower lease price compared to the 4WD models. Then the long wait began. I've had several new cars but this was the longest and hardest wait I've ever expereinced as the anticipation for the Yeti, was intense.

The Day finally arrived in march when I got my grubby mitts in the Yeti, and my 5 year daughter named her Betty.

Since taking delivery in March I've completed 10,000 miles of trouble free motoring, apart from one issues which was with the electric seats - the memory on these had been tempomental from day one, and after several visits to the local dealer and a software upgrade this issue was resolved and have behaved perfectly ever since.

Other than this the Yeti experience has lived up to my initial expectation.

Betty is very comfortable the interior especailly the leather seats are easy to keep clean, very important with a 5 year old. The visibility is superb and the whole family have commented on how good this is.

The economy from the 1.6 Greenline engine is good I've average approx 52mpg over the 10,000 miles, which has included pulling large trailers. The engine pulls smoothly throughout the rev range and is strong when required. Crusing on the motorway at 70mph is a great experience and on twisty roads it's fun to drive.

The technology in the Elegance spec is great and is most importantly very easy to use and faultless. The Bendy headlights have proved there worth on the twisty narrow lanes of Shropshire and the Bluetooth phone system hasn't failed once (unlike my previous Mondeo) The only thing I have missed was DAB radio, but this is something I've come to get used to not having.

One of the things I was a little concerned about was the towing ability of the Greenline with it's 1.6 engine, as you cannot test this with a demostrator. I have been surprised as to how good the towing ability is. I've towed both a 8ft sided trailer and 14ft flatbed trailer fully loaded and it's pulled these with ease, averaging 40+ mpg on both occasions, which i was very impressed.

If I have one critisim, it's not with the Yeti, but with Skoda's user manual, which isn't the most easy to understand. I'm guessing that this is the result of it being translated into English, rather than not being written in English.

Anyway here's to the next 10,000 miles of Yeti enjoyment

Nice write-up.

The 13pin socket on mine is OK, as was the one on my previous Roomster. A visit to your dealer is called for as it should be weather proof. However, I'd doubt it would survive dry if immersed.

The advice about silicon grease and WD40 is good but shouldn't be necessary.

PS anyone else noticed that the "Reply to this topic" at the bottom of the page is not working. The "Edit" doesn't seem to work for me either.

This is a reply to this topic....

Works for me, but you have to "clic" in the space first, then you get all the "bits" appearing

A great endorsement of an excellent product. Well done.

No, it is a result of the lack of the editing function. First part was meant for another topic.

I think you will find the Yeti manual was first translated into Chinese and then back to English.

Simple english it isn't. Even the 'how to top up the engine oil' section is bloated and over long in describing an obvious process.
