Urgh! Scanned with VAG COM..

Featured Replies

Good evening boys and girls!

Ok, so i'm in a slight predicament here. I've recently had my coil packs replaced under the "recall" and have covered less than im sure 5000 miles.

Scanned the car with VAG COM tonight and came back with the following error codes.

16684 -

Random misfire detected

16685 - Cylinder 1 misfire detected

16688 - Cylinder 4 misfire detected

16686 - Cylinder 2 misfire detected

Now when the car is COLD, when i fire it up the engine judders and vibrates for a minute or so along with a "HISSING" noise which i assume is a air leak?

The SAI has been removed completely. After a minute or so the car returns to normal and drives fine and pulls hard.

Really baffling as the fault codes are showing a misfire.

Anyone have and suggestions?

Phone call to Skoda tomorrow might be in order...

Cheers.

Have you had the coil pack recall done? Sounds like coil pack issues to me.

Yeah, It went in for the recall less than 5000 miles ago :/....

Does sound more like an electrical issue, what are the state of the wiring for the coil packs? They can suffer with heat damage

Another idea is your coolant temp sender, with vcds have a look at what the temp readings are for the ecu and gauge.

I know this might sound stupid but when was your fuel filter changed? Did a merc the other day had a miss fire on random cylinders fault code said all types of sensor problems and beleave it or not was a blocked fuel filter but as said does sound electrical

have you cleared the codes? and also when were spark plugs last renewed. I'd check these before splurging big money on other things (though a replacement fuel filter is v cheap and a good thing to do anyway)

Yes as STSKODA says and check the free and simple things 1st :)

Maybe need new spark plugs or as someone said the loom for the coil packs deteriorates with the age and heat

I did think it maybe down to the coil pack wiring to be fair, Never thought of the fuel filter to be honest. Might give that a change, just abit worried about damaging the clips.

The spark plugs were changed when the packs were replaced.

Recon you've been given 4 nice new duff coilpacks

The coilpack replacement programe does not fix the coilpack issues, they just give you 4/6/8 new coilpacks, which are no more reliable than those replaced.

Breather pipe under the inlet manifold might be split. Mine was and did the same if was misfiring and juddering and had the hissing sound too, £20 breather pipe from eBay (silicone one) job done runs perfect now. As for the fuel filter there no life date or change date on them at all at the dealers? My mate works at VW and checked it all out, but I had mine done anyway.

Was you able to get to this pipe without taking the inlet manifold off matey?

I'd clear the codes and then drive it to see if they reappear - nothing you've said so far indicates their is a problem with the car running - if a coil has gone it will be very apparent and the code will flash up again

Yeah you can get to it no problem it's like a "S" shape pipe the oil in the breather system corrodes them from the inside out. I have hands like a Bear and I managed it. If you feel under the inlet manifold you can feel the pipes and you'd be able to tell if it is split. I had misfires on all 4 cylinders too.

As STSKODA says. Have you tried clearing codes, then see if they reappear. When skoda did my coil packs they didn't clear any codes on my car.

Yeah im going to try get them reset. I've only got a "freeware" version of vag com so it might be a trip to see ben next weekend and get them cleared.

The car did die the other week whilst pulling out a junction with the EPC light showing. Switched off and back on again and everythings been normal since :S....

The free version should do it

Just says something about not being able to due to it being a non registered version.

I'm betting it been a breather pipe, this is the pipe I was on about. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item231c44f0e6

If you put your hand under the inlet manifold you'll be able to feel if it's split.

Thanks mate, i have tried to get my hand under the inlet manifold but couldn't really feel a split. Maybe its a good idea to take the inlet off, gives me an excuse to fit those uprated inlet gaskets :p . Need to ditch the N249 and N112 off.

You my man, are a legend! Turns out there was a small split in the hose at the back i kept missing whils't trying to get my hands in there. Done a temp fix and no more juddering on startup! Runs like a dream again! Well chuffed!

Glad you've got to the problem, it's amazing what a little air leak can do. Happy to have been able to help. Cheap fix too.
