Michelin ps3's or Goodyear F1's

Featured Replies

I need 2 new front tyres on my vrs, currently have goodyear excellance which have done 22k, have been pleased with them. was going to go for the F1's for around £125-130ish a corner, but a local garage in Hinckley have a offer on at the moment, Michelin ps3 for £133 each, they will give me a £50 fuel voucher when i buy 2, so that works out at £108 a corner for the ps3's.

i know the ps3 are highley rated, but i have read reports that they can wear quickly. my annual mileage is between 16-18k so i would expect the tyres i buy to do this, i have always managed this with goodyear tyres, that i always buy.The f1' s would do this quite easily with my style of driving.

am temped to go for the ps3's as they work out cheaper but i would be not happy if i only got 8-10k out of them, if some of the reviews i have read are correct. i am not prepared to sacrifice extra wear for extra grip if you get where i am coming from...

dilemma ?

thoughts please guys !

Yes go for it.

Mileage on Michelins is usually a the top end of most tyres.

Michelins are used by Audi to win Le Mans and most European super cars.

Goodyear are used in NASCAR and not much else.

At the price with these fuel vouchers it is having you cake and eating it.

Conti Sport 2s will be gone off the front of the Fabia VRS this week and Oct TSI VRS has been on PS3 after a few months.

Tried Bridgestones, Contis, Dunlops and all are put in the shade by the Michelins.

Another vote for the PS3s. I put a pair of PS3s on the front a month ago, now going to get the rears done, as the £50 sainsburys vouchers makes it a no-brainer. They're sold as having 'remarkable tyre mileage', so I'm expecting at least 17k out of them..

Michelin now have the new EU labelling on their website - the PS3s score 'E' for Fuel Economy, 'A' for Wet Breaking and have a noise rating of 71db.

Michelin claim to produce tyre's to do the most mile's.

Bridgestone claim there tyre's are the cheapest/mile.

Michelin have just recalled 75000 tyre's due to delaminaction problem's, to sell them they have had to knock some money off. great offer if you can live with Michelin.

Connsidered Hankook?

yeah have considered hankook, sound good its another on my list if I could buy them for less than £100 a corner, then maybe...

The reviews on the ps3's are very mixed and a lot of them rate the F1's better than the ps3's.

I've always had goodyears for the last 15 years, so I know what I'm getting.....

The goodyears have gone up though in the last couple of years though, I am struggling to get them for around £100 each, which is what I want to pay.

Is it time for a change ???

Eagle f1's have changed spec at least 3 times in as many years !! we have had GSD3, Assymetric 1 and now Assymetric 2

I'd still buy them over any other tyre, dont think anything outperforms them in the wet

Michelin vs. Goodyear F1? Both great tyres, neither would be a bad choice.

I'm currently running GY F1 Assymetric 2's on my vRS - absolutely fantastic tyre. Super grippy wet or dry, seems to be wearing well.

Had PS3's on the Octy, now replaced all 4 for F1's as an experiment. Front's lasted about a year before hitting the wear markers - (about 14k) but the car is driven fairly hard. Rears had not lasted that long due to rear alignment being out but the amount of tread on the outer edge was still about 5mm after 2 years so they can last well.

I've found the F1's seem to apply the power to the road more reliably - the PS3's spun and chattered if you applied too much power whereas these seem to dig in and pull the car forward without much fuss. They are 'slightly' noisier than the PS3's though.
