Theft from cars

Featured Replies

OK I've only myself to blame for leaving stuff in the car........But last night I had a set of golf cubs, a trolley and some other stuff nicked out of the boot my car.

Car locks itself automatically after 30 seconds even if you forget to do it yourself so was locked for sure. There's no damage to car, no tool marks yet car has been screwed. grrrrrrrrrrr.

Mine doesnt lock itself

Is this a Seat feature?

If you unlock - but then don't open any doors. It will then relock after 30 seconds automatically.

If you are driving, pull up and simply walk away - won't lock itself, unless you have some sort of keyless entry.

Also to add this to the mix

if car is fully locked, you can press and hold the boot open button on the keyfob to open just the boot, once open and then closed it auto locks

well does on mine anyway!

Put the keys down while putting or getting out "stuff" from boot. Close boot...car locks... keys in boot.

Yes I know

So how did his car lock itself?

Sounds to me like OP got out car and left it unlocked.

To reiterate - when you stop from a drive and get out the car DOES NOT automatically lock. The only time it auto locks is when you open the car from locked and don't open any of the side doors (i.e can open boot and it will still relock)

Is the insurance coughing up?

The list of stuff they wont cover, and instances they wont cover these items is on the increase.

If the car was left insecure, as it sounds like it has been and which the police crime report form will reflect (without any signs of forced entry/damage it will definitely be classed as such), don't expect the insurance to pay up I'm afraid :(

Theft from motor vehicles is absolutely rife throughout the country at the moment, everyone should be aware of this and take suitable steps in checking the security of their vehicle as well as removing anything valuable from it

That wasn't necessarily the case when I was in the cops because even a few years back it was accepted it's quite possible to get into a car without damaging it.. And the SOCO I spoke to suggested a tool similar to this may have been used (thanks to someone on Seatcupra for these links) though tbh I've never seen owt like this myself. And also said that there is a spate of similar thefts in the area. Also suggested that the car will be repeatedly targeted now as that has happened to other people.

And the car was locked because my son couldn't get in it, he had to wait til I used the fob. It was only the boot that was open. And before someone jumps on me saying "OOh well the OP must have left the boot open" I drove 120miles shortly before parking up, didn't go in the boot and that was definitely locked as well.

One reason Why I've disabled the use of the key to open the windows from the lock etc via VCDS.
