'Low Energy' Tyres

Featured Replies

Many cars now have these fitted to Bluemotion, Greenline etc energy saving models.

But where can these tyres actuallly be bought - searched through many web sites for tyres and never seen such versions.

As of about now all tyres new tyres must have a sticker on them telling you noise, treadwear and grip ratings on them altho it already says it on sidewalls of tyres

From the 1st November they must by law, indicating how fuel effiecent, nosie and wet weather grip, some company's have started now but doubt your see them until current stock has been sold. .

Pirelli Cinturato P7 (as fitted to Skoda - apparently);

I have test driven a new superb with these fitted. It seems every new superb I see has a completely different set of tyres.

But are eco tyres worth the extra premium, I know when my dad needed new front tyres on his greenline, they were quiet expensive and as a result his greenline now sports a set of normal non eco tyres.

That is something only you can decide. Unlike performance tyres, these could save you money. But only if they give similar life and the fuel savings pay off the premium cost.

I'd strongly recommend the P7 Cinturato.

They aren't that much different in price to standard branded tyres if you shop around (mine were from Kwik Fit ordered on their website) and I've been very impressed with them. Good economy but they don't feel like Eco tyres when driving. They grip much better than the OEM tyres I had (who's brand escapes me at the mo) especially in the wet.

Thanks for the information. Never seen a car tyre advert yet that did not claim better mpg.

In the Autocar roadtests the 'energy' tyres are usually criticised for poorer grip.

If these tyres are less competitive pricewise then any small energy saving is going to be wiped out.

This was one of the reviews that I'd spotted at the time I was making the decision that scored them very highly on grip.

As I said, I've been very pleased with them since. I think they cost about 80 quid each fully fitted (205 55 16) which was only slightly more than I'd have paid for standard tyres from a known brand.
