hi all im looking for some advice on engine upgrades , lowering and retro fitting power sterring . im driving a 94 favorit forman pick up just got the body work sorted cant decide on a colour at the moment so would like some ideas on that too want a nice retro colour .ive got a set of e30 bbs rims to fit to , all input welcome as im really stuck for ideas at the moment cheers

Read Tom's thread about a 1.4 16v install - would need some mods as yours is a Fav, but would be doable, and is the easiest upgrade to a decent, modern powerplant - I think you're able to fit a Felicia front subframe to a late Fav to sort out the gearbox mounting. Tuning the 8v engine is expensive, and the 1.4 16v engine gives 100bhp straight out of the box.

cheers dude i'll take a look any ideas on springs or coilovers ? i have a polish friend looking into a fast road cam and a carb he thinks are available in poland , was also thinking of bike carbs .

Coilovers, I think golf rears fit and focus Mk1 fronts fit with a bit of persuasion, do a search for Focus and Golf, I think....

Cams are available (I have several!), but getting the most out of them means a properly ported head, a decent exhaust (the manifold is the sticking point usually on them, as stock is restrictive and tubular ones around the £300+ mark from CZ), and of course decent inlet. Trust me, I have spent a long time trying to get the most out of the 8v engine on the cheap, since I had a Favorit rally car, and it'll take more than a cam and a different carb for it to be worthwhile. Not saying it's not worth it, but there's a path of far less resistance with the 1.4 16v conversion, you can have that done in a day. I have a very good quality head on my Felicia (made by Motor Excel in CZ), with bigger valves and it was north of £1000 for that. With the right bottom end I'd be getting 145-150bhp from it, but then the right bottom end would mean steel rods and forged pistons and knock me back another £2000+!

Cam, (bike) carbs and exhaust is going to get you about 80bhp....maybe a couple more but not the 100bhp you can get with the 1.4 16v engine transplant and it will cost as much if not more. Don't bother with just aftermarket springs.....I had a Fav last year and it had lowered and supposedly uprated springs and it was as soft as Lenor and as rolly as roly poly.

I had bike carbs, cam and head on my Favorit and it was 96bhp on the rollers. I'll have the bike carbs manifold and filters for sale soon if you were interested but will prob need stripped and cleaned as they ran a bit rough on the car. As the other guys said though the 1.4 16v conversion is cheaper and easier to do if you want at least 100bhp, the only reason i'm not doing it is cos i'm 20 and won't get insured if I change my engine...

^ You may well be right in this respect. However don't be tempted to join the trend of buying/modding cars uprated engine wise and then merrily insuring as a standard unaltered model. All well and good until something happens accident wise etc and you're then potentially in the ****! A message I've trying to convey to my lad for some time

No "potentially" about it. Insurance companies aren't stupid, and will do anything they can to get out of paying for a claim. Something obvious such as tuning that's undeclared will be an easy walk away for them.
