Vrs buying/servicing

Featured Replies

Alright guyss

Looking to get myself a vrs to replace my golf, at the moment i've found ove thats done 120k up for 2.5k, it has 6 stamps and looks like its had longlife service not every 12k? is this possible?

Also cambelt was last done at 60 so needs doing again?

Thanks.

Matt

To me £2500 sounds a bit steep for a car thats done 120k. I payed less than that for mine 4 months ago that at the time had done 115k with FSH. Only had 2 owners and been with last owner for 6 years with no expense spare with regards to maintanence etc. Also it had a few mods like stage 1 map, forge recirc valve, cai etc. Personally I would say that buying one with that kinda mileage isnt too much of an issue as long as its been looked after, but I would probably only looking to pay around the 2k mark.

That said i've only been on octy owner for 4 months and im sure there will be some more experienced owners on here that will come along and give you there opinions.

Cheers

Cam belt needs doing, sounds like long life servicing.

2500 is way too much, got mine with 109k 3 years ago for that price lol

Found a red one on 2001 114k for £2000 at a dealer, fsh and apparentley its immaculate so i will go and have a look tomorrow!

i would be carefull of longlife servicing, its a good way to save money but does it do the car any good :/ service mine every 10k

Make sure its red, most owners like to kid themselves that their car is red but really its faded to pink lol

Actually a local garage has just had a 2004 one come in on 97k and want 2 and a half for it, does this sound reasonable?

And after a day with my detailing gear and DA polisher the car will be looking better than new

Go check it out, check the usual wear and tear. Make sure the Cambelt has been done AND the water pump. If it was me i'd probably replace those when I bought it anyway but there are signs to tell whether a car hasn't been looked after or not.

My favourite is Tyres that don't match and things like whether the coolant is VAG spec (usually pink), just little things like that that may suggest its been done on the cheap. My 04 plate I got for strong money a year and a half ago but it only had 60K on it and a lot of good supporting mods.

Just go have a look, take a test drive and make your mind up from there.

I went to see one and saw that it was ex police, ie centre cubby hole missing, screw holes in the dash and obvious things were mounted in the boot, plus blue coolant. Price was low so at first didn't put me off, but the guy selling it taking the pee and denying it was ex police did so walked away lol
