Ok i thought i would start a new thread rather than hijacking someone elses.

Firstly id like to list what parts have been replaced using the numbers in the image above.. so here goes -

4, 10, 12, 21, 25, inc outer track/tie rod ends - (meyle HD arm set including all nuts/bolts,(both sides) .

11 - (kw suspension struts + springs).

15 + new genuine wheel bearings (all 4)

also

new genuine outer cv joints (both sides).

polysport inner anti rollbar bushes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

parts that i have waiting to be fitted -

41 - inner cv joint (both sides)

inner tie rods (yet to purchase)

EBC Red front brake pads, discs are fine.

EBC rear brake pads + discs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ive also had the car 4 wheel laser aligned.

and have also checked the steering rack bolts.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, NOW THE PROBLEM IM HAVING -

while driving i notice that the front n/s passenger side sounds rough when going over the slightest bumps, also i notice that when going around an island i am getting a rumbling noise from the n/s and i get a feeling that the n/s dips lower when cornering but i cannot be sure about this.

ive noticed that if i drive the N/S passenger side of the car over a manhole cover which is only slightly raised or slightly lower than the road i get this hollow bump type noise. this noise does not happen on the O/S drivers side, the drivers side seems nice and tight.

there is also a whining/humming noise which i can hear all the time, the noise seems to get quicker with the rpms, the gaps between the sound seem to get closer together, also on de-acceleration when coming to a stop you can really hear the sound whining/humming down, but i cannot pinpoint where this is coming from!

on top of this whining/humming noise, i am getting i shudder/vibration travelling from the front to the rear of the car, i can feel this vibration through the steering wheel, through the floor, through the pedals. this shudder/vibration is there when i take it out of gear and let the car coast/roll.

a customer of mine whole is a diesel engineer for trucks said it could possibly be the gearbox!

overall the car is not comfortable to drive and to me feels unsafe

Wheel balancing for the vibration, you should feel it in your hands on the steering wheel, check for a bent rim as well, shudder would suggest the clutch isn't in line fully, hollow bump says the shocker is shot or the bottom swivel has massive play in it, they saw you coming with this one didn't they.

the wheel balancing was done before i had the wheel alignment done, the rims were also checked for buckles etc. also with the std steel wheels fitted im still having the same issues.

"shudder would suggest the clutch isn't in line fully" ... how does the clutch manage to fall out of line? ive had this clutch in for about 9 thousand miles with no issue. is there nothing else that would cause a shudder?

"hollow bump says the shocker is shot or the bottom swivel has massive play in it" .... i dont believe the shocker is knackered, the shocks have no leaks and travel as they should.

what do you mean by bottom swivel? would this not have been in the meyle HD kit that fitted(all arms + droplinks).

any help/ideas on this humming noise and vibrations through the pedals/floor and seats?

its really starting to get on my nerves now.

regarding the vibrations, im wondering if the bump stops maybe an issue? i have shortened shocks but they were refitted with the std bump stops! would the car sitting on the bump stops cause a wobbly/vibration feel.?

Humming can be tyre brand, mine hum well but grip really well

Humming can be tyre brand, mine hum well but grip really well

ive not changed the tyres though.! can they just randomly start making a humming/whining noise?

Does the tread look sawtoothed?

no not at all, just very slight wear on the outer edges and i means very slight. as mentioned i had the wheels checked for trueness and balanced just before laser wheel alignment but this vibration/shuddering is still there.

the feeling is kind of the same if you are driving over the white stripes and rumble strips (it feels abit twichy and shuddery)

Badly warped disc, buckled wheel, twisted tyre, apart from what you've changed is all I can think of.

ive noticed that my kw suspension is sitting on the bump stops all around.! i have a feeling this may have something to do with the unstable/wobbly/vibrating feeling im getting through the car.

This cant be good can it? as there would be next to no travel for the shock absorbers.

ive purchased a pair of 8D0412131E bump stops for the front which ive also cut down more, and im having the rears cut buy about 40mm.

im hoping this helps my problem.

update

renewing the bumpstops has significantly reduced the juddery vibrations but this rumble noise and feel is still there.

Ive now had new inner cv joints fitted but the issue is still there!

im holding back from taking the car to a skoda dealer at the moment but this issue is REALLY starting to get on my nerves.

Now the MAIN ISSUE i want to concentrate on is -

what is causing this horrendous hollow rumbling sound which is coming from the front passenger side when i make a right turn?

the rumble seems to be happing when weight is on the passenger side

this sound is also there coming from the drivers side when i turn left but not as noticeable.

ive also noticed that my front brakes have started making a horrible rumbling noise when applied, this noise is there when FIRMLY applying the brakes to a stop, its not so loud if if feather the brakes to a stop, the noise is not there if i let the car roll to a stop.

im wondering if this maybe related to the rumbling im getting when cornering? possibly the brake caliper piston becoming stiff and possibly feathering the brake pads to the discs?

i think it fair to say ive had the whole front end renewed (apart from brake calipers) so i cant understand why im having so much trouble from the front.

please state if you think if there is possibly something i may have missed out from my new parts list that may remedy this issue.

does sound like a bearing

does sound like a bearing

the bearings are new and genuine, plus ive had them checked by a few different local garages which all say they seem fine with no noise or play.

can i be that unlucky to have 2 defective genuine bearings?

Im wondering...... what does a worn/bad steering rack sound like? note that i dont have any play in the steering.

im trying to picture in my mind what can cause this hollow rumble issue......

the hollow rumble is only there when the weight of the car is on one side or the other, the noise is there in and out of gear, in fact you can hear the noise more when out of gear, possibly due to low engine noise. the noise isnt there when travelling in a straight line.

however i am getting a similar hollow rumbling noise when applying the brakes firmly, this sound is not heard when i let the car roll to a stop.

so to top off..

The noise is there when weight is on one or the other side when turning, the noise is not there in a straight line.

A similar noise is there when applying the brakes firmly, the noise is not so apparent when feathering the brakes, the noise is not there in a straight line.

the only noise in getting in a straight line is this medium to high humming noise, its not really that loud but enough for me to hear it, i cannot pinpoint where this is coming from. this noise is more noticed on the motorway but can still be heard at slower speeds, i would say this noise starts at around 20mph.

gearbox diff? or inner end of driveshafts maybe?

gearbox diff? or inner end of driveshafts maybe?

inner cv's are new.

gearbox diff... hmm it could be possible, but ive no idea on what a bad diff would sound like! do they sound hummy/whiny? or rumbly or both.?

are diffs replaceable? or would a new gearbox be more cost effective?

ive just got back from having my tracking checked and it is spot on. so i cant understand why the car feels twichy on the motorway, i feel like im having to correct the steering more than usual

i think it would be a new box, but thats if it is that.

If it feels twitchy its still pointing to something steering related, unles diff is throwing around drive, side to side like.

this is why im thinking steering rack, but the lack of play in the steering would suggest not.

ive noticed that my kw suspension is sitting on the bump stops all around.!

Just so I can get this right ..... you're saying that the coil spring and damper is connected in such a way that there is less distance between the two ends of the coil spring than the length of the original bump stop ( which slips onto the shaft of the damper) ?

How would the damper correctly dampen the suspension if there was a piece of hard rubber stopping it from doing it's job?

I think I would have a long hard look at the suspension parts that you have fitted and make sure that you have the correct ones for the car.

Maybe the rumbling noise is the sound of the tyre rubbing on the wheel arch?

as mentioned above, i have sorted the bump stop issue and fitted shorter ones which ive also chopped after some measuring.

ive check the inner arch cover for signs of scrubbage but there clean.

i think im just going to have to except that the car is doing this.:wall:
