Service Indication - stuck on OIL and trip counter not updating

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have tried the "push - ignition - hold - twist" trick (which has worked many times before) but this one won't go away:

The car isn't due an OIL service (it was serviced and reset only 1500 miles ago) but the trip counter shows OIL, and it just stays there - it doesn't drop back to the trip counter, ever, until you trun the ignition off again. Then it just says 0.0. I've pulled all the fuses to see if was just a processor sulking, but no dice.

Any (cheap) thoughts? Its an 03 plate Fabia 1.9TDi with 151500-ish on the clock, no mods, tweaks or add-ons, never had an issue before.

Try finding someone with VCDS to reset it, when it first appears does it not flash "oil" first ?

Can't remember what my MK1 did but have you checked the oil level? my MK2 indicates low oil level

R1chard - no, it doesn't flash at all, just sits there like an Olympic seat reservation.

Miyagi san - I'll check, but it was only changed ... ah, I see your point! That said, it could be the sensor (if fitted), because I have a few other electro-gremins to sort as well.

Thanks for the tips. I'll report back.

If it was the oil level you should also get the oil warning light on the dash... unless it isn't working.

Start with the simple things and check the oil level though just in case.

You could always disconnect the battery and see if that clears it.

The oil level seems up to standard - I'm wondering whether the oil temperture / level sender plug has fallen off. I'd have checked before posting, but's its raining :rain: . Anyone know (offhand) if my engine has one?

Possibly not.

I know most of the PD130's have them but your PD100 may not.

You will spot it straight away anyway.
