Cruise control: possible to get info on MFD?

Featured Replies

I managed to get a free upgrade to a Golf TDI for my hire car on Sicily the other week. Which was nice. One thing I noticed was that the speed setting of the cruise control appeared in the bottom left corner of the MFD. When cruise control was active it showed a wee logo like the cruise control icon that appears on the speedo dial, plus the set cruise speed. If cruise control was engaged the speed was shown in bold, otherwise it was normal font. I found that particular feature quite useful as a reminder of how fast the car would try to go if I re-engaged cruise control by clicking 'up' on the rocker switch on the end of the left-hand stalk.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the cruise control speed setting showing like this on the Yeti's MFD?

I think several of us have tried to get this enabled via VCDs but AFAIK without success?

I use mine with the digital speed fucntion on the MFD. To be fair, cruise on the Skoda's is pretty poor..............

1/ You don't have a Yeti, so MFD is not compatable.

2/ Why should the Skoda cruise control be poor when it is exactly the same system used in many VAG vehicles, and actually seems to be a standard Hella fitting.

Agreed. The CC on the Golf seemed identical to the Yeti's in the way it was used and the way it behaved. The only difference was the MFD display which I assumed to be a UK/Europe difference. I'd consider nothing more than a "nice to have".

I even use CC on my short commute to work these days. I find it very handy even with 30mph limits all the way, and it seems to be deliver better fuel consumption then my right foot does(!) I have the CC permanently switched on: it's easy to engage using the 'down' rocker switch on the end of the stalk, and cancels itself automatically as soon as I need to respond to traffic situations.

EDIT:

oops. Just read on further and seems it hasn't worked on the Yeti or Octy.

Must be down to the coding of the vehicle and as you say possibly a europe/UK thing.

Just to be pedantic Graham, I thought Hella majored in lighting systems, and that Bosh were the leading lights in ECU manufacture?

I don't know, someone enlighten me please.

ps, although the CC is good and my first experience of it, it does drift a bit.

Also from reading that thread it seems it's not possible on Diesel Yetis only Petrols.

Jerry,

I was told that it was a Hella system, but to be honest, it doesn't matter who actually makes it as it is a common "part" across not only VAG, but other makes as well.

The cruise control display doesn't work on my Leon either btw.

Yup, too easy! I've posted before on here about a 'brown trouser' moment when I was blatting along a twisty country road, turned the wheel to the right for a bend, and hamfistedly knocked 'on' the CC with my knuckles so that when I took my foot off the pedal I didn't get the expected deceleration. Time seemed to stand still for a moment before I realised what had happened.

and hamfistedly knocked 'on' the CC with my knuckles

You have your explanation right there Bob.

I have never had a problem 'knocking' on the CC, only the voice activation or volume control. Must be down to the way we hold the steering wheel.
