help! whirring noise

Featured Replies

So I picked up my car on friday after it had a new clutch, SMF and LSD fitted. Not really been out in it since i got it back :o . So anyway I was going to work this morning and I noticed a whirring noise when i go into 5th and 6th gear (can only really hear it when accelerating). Does anyone know what this could be? Is my gearbox starting to fail  ? Don't really want to be forking out for this especially just after getting the other work done (maybe this was what caused it).

Check your gear oil level. Wouldnt be the first time Ive heard of a garage "forgetting" to fill it back up after fitting lsd!

How easy is this easy enough to do bud? The guy I take it to is usually spot on but I suppose everyone can make mistakes.

You'll need some gear oil as theres no level indicator as such. Its easy to do if you get the car on axle stands so its level and u can get under it. Just undo the filler bolt (large hex if its the same but I forget the actual size) and fill til its level with the hole as starts coming back out the gearbox. I'm new to skoda but it should be the same as the rest of the vag range. The filler should be on the side of the gb casing. Id google it for u but Im on the phone and its a pain in the arse sorry mate!

That's spot on.

You may need a length of pipe and funnel to make it a bit easier too. Fill it from above with the pipe running up into the engine bay.

Might it be worth checking with the place that fitted it all? If it's something they have done wrong then they should sort it FOC for you.
