Teach the dealer?

... or wanted to know :)

If folks do get there hands on and fit a VW metal impeller pump, then they will have less warranty than with an aftermarket product.

The aftermarket product is designed/approved for a Skoda and will have a parts warranty.

Fitting a VW part to a vehicle for which the part is not designed/approved will have no parts warranty

So I am at a loss as to why TPS supplied me with a metal impeller pump when they took my reg number and also the box had the VW, Seat, Skoda and Audi logos on it?

At this rate it will only be on for about 3 years before the cambelt gets done again anyway.

My guess is they supplied the PPS one. The PPS impeller is often mistaken for aluminium. Do you have a part code from the invoice?

Dare I say that some parts may look OEM but are in fact fakes.

Would have to agree with Tech1e, in all my years at various vag dealers I have never seen a genuine pump with a metal impeller.

Might be the supplier. I know for a fact that GSF once sold me an OEM coolant bottle for my Golf G60 but it had to have the embossed VW/Audi logo scratched off it cos they weren't allowed to sell it like that outside of a dealer or official parts supplier.

From TPS who are part of VAG group??????

Nope - invoice in my cousins garage somewhere!

It sure looked like metal to me, but it looks like you are correct and I stand corrected.

I had a look here

http://www.blauparts.com/audi_water_pump_replacement/audi_water_pump_plastic_impeller_controversy.html

and the interesting thing is the impeller is kind of metal coloured. The one that came out was definitely black plastic, and had either been fitted by a Skoda dealer as they did the previous cambelt change, or was the one from the factory.

More than likely you replaced a Durethan with PPS then.

I had a plastic one fail in a 1.9D Clio 1993 (dont ask) fins all fell off bar 1 and it fried itself having no temp gauge was a retarded design tbh. But that was an old car with an even older design of engine again. I would like to think that a manufacturer like the VAGroup would know what they are doing in the design of these things I doubt its a flimsy brittle plastic might be more durable nylon or something?
