Intercooler fitting issues-Now on but with suspected boost leak?

Featured Replies

Hey all I'm wondering if you can help me out, I've been having some issues last night trying to fit my THS cooled with the pipe work.

The top pipe that come's off doesn't seem to connect up straight to the map sensor bend no matter where I seem to locate the pipe's. The 45deg bend off the top outlet is pushed right in to get it anywhere near to sit close to the map sensor bend that the end of the pipe is touching the INSIDE of the cooler, surely that can't be right?

Anybody have any suggestions as to how to get it to line up correctly?

Get a pic up mate if you can?

What pipework are you using?

I cant im afraid as im not near the car but if you look at the guide on the site on here the pipe positioning is similar to that when the map bend is being fitted its kinda a 45 deg kink in it. ive sourced my own samco hoses but used forge alloy pipes so i know they are the right ones etc

The main issue i have is the bend coming out of the reducer is touching inside of the cooler cause of having to sit it in so far to sit right

Managed to get it all too fit together in the end but I had to do some adjusting of the pipework, but I seem to have an issue now it's all back together, around 2k rpm I start to get a screeching sound, that seems to tail off slightly after 2.5k Is this the sound of a boost leak?

Just uploading a vid now of the sound

Yes that sounds right as if the pipes are too long!

And screeching with be a boost leak yes

I think that way well of been the case that the pipe's were too long as to get them to fit I had to trim the pipework.

Here is a video of the noise

How do I find out exactly where I have a boost leak, what ways can I test it?

Just a quick question, on the map sensor bend I had an adaptor plate that fitted inside the hole on the bend, then the MAP senor fitted inside that. Should I of put anything on that plate to help it seal, could that be the issue as it only seems like a small leak by the sounds of it and the car doesn't feel down on power or anything?

There should be a rubber o ring that seals that so no need for sealent buddy :)

There is on the map sensor but the hole in the pipe itself is too big so forge supply an adapter plate which just sits in just wondering if thats the cause.

Ive found it only seems to do it on hard to mid throttle light is fine even when on boost wondering if its engine moving causing pipes to scrape on something?
