Skoda Octavia III TDI - Best one to go for

Featured Replies

The Octavia III is on my list of cars to look at when I decide to replace my current car, which is another VAG product with 115 pd engine in it, remaped to around 150 bhp.

Ideally I would like something with the same amount of power, so presume it would be best to go for 2.0PD 140 bhp and consider another remap?

Would be looking at 2004 to 2005 cars, mileage between 95,000 to 115,000 miles, budget £3,000 to £4,000

(1) What are the pitfalls of the 1.9 PD & 2.0 PD

(2) From experience is there a lot of difference in mpg between the 1.9 & 2.0.

(3) We tow a trailer tent max load 500KG, would the 2.0 PD be a better car for this task

(4) Does the 1.9 PD have a dpf and what about the 2.0PD, do the dpf's cause any significant issues.

Thanks

Until people start to wake up you might be best off using the search facility in the meantime - you'll probably find most of your answers there......

The Skoda Octavia III isn't out yet; it's due next year. For that year, budget and mileage you are probably looking at an Octavia I or very early II.

Buy the best you can afford. An older but less 'uggered model may be a better bet than the newest, but there are improvements with the mk2. It feels quite a bit bigger which may or may not be considered an improvement.

The toys enabled by having CANBUS can be a two edged sword, check they all work.

Finding a 2.0 at that price point in good condition may be a struggle. The 2.0 pd seemed to have a bit of a rep at the time I got mine. I think the 2.0cr was later.

I have a 1.9pd with the pov spec engine which does everythiing I ask, doing the frequent 600mile jaunt from Germany to home, average speed 60+, average mpg 48-52. 3500 mile jolly round France an easy 52+ mpg. For me the silly 280mm brakes were always on the agenda for a change.

If you're really strapped for cash there is always the option of upgrading the bits worn or tired on your existing vehicle - suspension bushes and dampers, brakes and wheels etc. There are lots of compatible donors out there now.

.

The 1.9 will do everything you want it to do and with less problems than the 2ltr, the 2 ltr has known turbo problems.

My 1.9 is coming up to 209000

If the dual mass flywheel goes you can fit the single system in at a quarter of the cost
