Fabia vRS 0-60

Featured Replies

Hi all, i was just wondering what all you fabia vrs owners think is a realistic 0-60 time for youre car be it modded or standard.

I've read a fair few reviews and in a lot of them it is always mentioned that skodas 0-60 stat of 9.6s is not at all accurate and that a much faster time (around late 7s to early 8s) can be acheived.

What do you owners think of this?

Cheers

Modded....Late 6's......

a fabia vrs was tested with a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds, standard car! More tests revealed a 0-60 of just over 8 seconds was more acurate...

I'd say a shade over 8 seconds once it's got a few thousand on the clock. Before that it was a little slower. Standard Furby, dry conditions :)

Well i was looking at the new Fiesta ST before i came across the idea of the vrs as they are similary priced, what do any of you think about the ST has anyone test driven one?

What do you think has the best performance as a whole?

PS: I would be most surprised if you didn't buy then buy the Furby - unless you have a pathalogical phobia about the Skoda brand name!

I too considered the ST, I think overall it has one advantage, handling...

But as a whole package (mpg, comfort, value, holding its value, this list could go on for ever........) the Furb vRS wins by a long way... ;)

i've driven both and the fabia is the better car.

it's a LOT faster through the gears, has a better driving position, better built and has much better quality plastics etc. also the fabia has great mpg and the fiesta will max to about 25mpg.

i should be biased because i've just sold my fiesta zetec-s and loved it more than anything....but the fabia is a class above.

the fiesta is getting a facelift later this year and will recieve a better interior, possible climate control and exterior changes that include new headlights...the ST models will retain the same front and rear bumpers.

it would be a bad decision to buy an ST now because it will be worth less when the new model arrives.

the ST does handle well though and is quick for it's insurance group but a fabia vrs has even cheaper insurance and is quicker through the gears.

i just felt that the current fiesta felt cheap. when the facelift comes out i hope they improve on the quality of materials. if they do then i may consider one.....

i'm waiting for an RS to appear though.. :(

i'm waiting for an RS to appear though.. :(

I am booked for a test drive of the RS as soon as its available, saw it at the Motorshow, looks rather nice

Sorry slighty off topic...

Fabia everytime :D

the RS concept that you saw has been scrapped. there's been no insider news on an RS model either :(

BUT it would be stupid of ford not to produce one with the facelift. there's definately a market for a 200bhp wide arched fiesta. they have this "team RS" but yet we don't have one lol. there will be a focus 300bhp 4x4 RS though.....but it will be silly money.

i really hope skoda lead the way and build a monster fabia wrc. :D

another thing to point out is that the book times:

fabia is 9.5secs 0-62

ST is 7.9 0-60

BUT

the ST is 8.4 0-62

ford have used the 60 time to make it appear quicker and to get it below 8secs lol

My Stock Fabia vRS was taken to Santa Pod the other weekend by my girlfriend, and based on the 1/8th mile ET and MPH on the fastest run (16.45 seconds) the 0-60 was 8.2seconds

Can you tell me which road tests are you reffering to??

Is just over 8 secs realistic for a std vRS or is it enthusiastic talk from a biased Skoda forum??

The road test in question is from Autocar's long test, they achieved one run of 7.2 seconds amongst many of around 8. Some people think the car was chipped by skoda, I'm sceptical because the car reached 100mph in 23 seconds which i heard is about right for a standard car.

The car is capable of 8 seconds standard, especially when run-in. The technique for getting a good time is more tricky than a petrol car, floor it and you will just stand still with your wheels spinning because of the torque.

Does anyone have a scanned copy of this test. I'd be interested to read it!

I think part of the problem with quoting 0-60 times is that they don't mention the conditions surrounding it and there are so many variables, it's hard for any two runs to be the same. I believe the book quoted figures were for a car with 2 passengers and a full tank of fuel, and I suspect, very little mechanical sympathy! ;)

You were able to get hold of the long term test report at Skoda dealers up until recently, as a promotional brochure.

Not sure if its still available.

Just to add some non-biased Fiesta info' date=' click [url']http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=155[/url]

I still have a copy of the Autocar in question (I'm sure a few people on here do), but as the article's 7 or 8 pages IIRC, there's a bit more to it than just scanning and emailing with my the shortcomings of my old PC (apart from the copyright, that is ;) )

My local dealer had a copy of that autocar report and the diesel car report only a week ago...

Go check out a dealer near you...!

Needless to say they both love it. Lots of praise from both overall but a little negative on the agility. they do lots of comparisons like the 50-70 MPH time in 5th is quicker than a 330d. Apparently...

Rainking how did you work that out just out of interest? And how did the bus doing at the pod?

There is a calculation based on the MPH and ET at the 60ft mark... but I've not got it written down, I found a 'calculator' on a website (link is stored on home PC though)

That was with a full tank of Diesel too :D

She did OK in the Bus... ran late 22's consistently but got knocked out in the first round of eliminations by a fraction of a second... other than that, spot on... good reaction times and after the first round of qualifying she was 3rd best qualifier...

Just to muddy the waters further, the official (factory) performance figures in the Technical Data booklet are

measured without the vehicle being fitted with any equipment such as air conditioning, mud flaps, which affect the performance.[unquote] This means that they are likely to be better than real life.

skoda claim 9.6 to 60. it is obviously better than that!

No offence but the only thing thats muddy is my Fabia's bum.

9.6 to sixty and then more if you put on mudflaps. Can i have some of what you are smoking? :D

Any manufacturer quating unattainable figures 0-60 opens itself up for court cases.

Since the 70s 0-60 times have always been conservative for all cars, diesels fare especially well in this regard because the manufacturer quotes the time the worst built car off the production line will do it in, and diesels loosen up much more than petrols over the first 10k miles or so. A Furby vRS with 0.0 miles on the clock is probably around 9.6 with 2 occupants and a tank of fuel, as this is how VAG group 0-60s are calculated.
