Would you pay

Featured Replies

As the title really.

We already have one but the wife nicked it.

As it is such a great all-rounder I now want one.

The problem is we only paid £14K for our 1 year old, 8,000 mile Scout three years ago.

For the same money I'm looking at a 2008 model with 25,000 miles.

This is before negotiation but Scouts are in demand so I'm not looking at more than a few hundred quid off.

The wife says no (she reckons it'll look sad having two of the same car on the drive!)

I bought a vRS last year (see signature) but still pine for another Scout.

So the question to other Scout owners is should I, or is the 'new car desire' blurring my vision!?

Reckon you could probably find one for cheaper than that with a slightly higher mileage, especially pre-FL, but I would definitely go for another one if I had the choice. Then again, I'm a bit biased as we're on our second Scout already ;)

Wise words GroundHog,

As I cover high mileage (25K per year) I'm looking for as low mileage as possible to ensure the car outlives the finance

There are quite a few 50-100K Scouts from £12 - £8K.

This one stuck out as its quite low mileage for its age (2008 / 25K) and it is loaded with kit (Columbus, heated leather, xenon's, MFSW & Maxidot).

It will depend on the cost to change with my vRS in P/X (2007, diesel, 52K) but I'm prepared to stretch for the right car.

I'm starting to think that trading mines in for a VRs might be a bad move if that's how much they are going for!

Only reason is I need to go to a DSG as the missus can only drive a an auto

Crazy money, whats the price to change to a year younger £7000?

Are you suprised at the price of the Scout or the vRS?

I'm looking to go the other way, vRS to Scout. The vRS is a phenominal car but I simply don't need that much power and during my 70 mile commute the sports suspension is a little tiring for me. I've had a few issues with mine too which has taken the shine off it.

My vRS has been valued at anywhere between £6,600 and £7,800!

Fancy a straight swop?

Insane in my opinion but if you can afford it and that's what you want, go for it!

Not far off mate.

Assuming I can get top notch for my vRS (£8K) then I'm looking at an extra £6K to change.

The Scout is 8 months younger and has half the mileage.

Agreed though, it's a lot of money for what is essentially 'another' Octavia!

That's my worry, am I insane for even contemplating this change?

I want a Scout but it is a high price to pay.

I've been surveying Skoda's used car website almost daily and spotted the cars you have linked.

I really don't want to exceed £14K though as I'm keen to limit the monthly finance so that we can continue to overpay on our mortgage!

The hunt continues!

Crazy talk at that price.

In my opinion it would be madness to pay that amount of cash to change from your vrs to a scout,if you want to drive a scout to work why cant you drive yours & your wife use the vrs to run around in? 14k is a awful lot of money for a 4 year old octavia.

Over priced at the number.

If you need a 4x4 you can get an approved used 3yr old Tiguan tdi for that

Or a 4yr old X3 if that's more your thing or a Freelander.

Skoda is supposed to be a budget car, I think they're starting to forget that a little right now.

£14k is insane because 4 years ago brand new Scouts TDI were only £15.5k from dealers. You can still find "weekly best deals" articles from that period on honestjohnto verify prices.

Thanks for the kind offer but I'll pass :)

I'm hoping the vRS will make the commute more fun but then again I do lift share not sure the others will like it as much

That's a heck of a lot of money for a 4.5 year old car.

Saying that I just priced a Passat Alltrack up on a VW configurator..........somehow don't think it's worth that much :(

I though I would look to see as looking at a 4yo elegance.

I spoke to the dealer this morning and told him my max cost to change was £5K.

He never called back so I'm guessing that's a 'no' then

I reckon thats a mad amount of money to pay for a vehicle that old.

Don't get me wrong - the Scout is an excellent car but.......there are a fair few alternatives that are arguably better vehicles - offering considerably more cache', better dynamics and equipment but that are also better value being more reasonably priced.

It s a prime case of supply and demand overtaking the true worth of an item.

Dealer in york has a 08 scout for sale for £11k,its done 60k though,also a 09 for £15k & a nearly new one for £22k!!!

I wouldn't!
