How to price a high-miles FL vRS?

Featured Replies

I'm currently running a 2010 vRS Fl Tsi wagon - it's my company car and I have the option to buy when it's de-fleeted.

My order for a new vRS will be placed in the next few weeks and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get the current car at a good price with a view to either keeping it (for the wife) or more likely to move it on for a small margin.

Problem is - the car will have I expect somewhere around 85k miles on it when the new one arrives. Looking at price guides and cars for sale on Autotrader does not really reflect help as there is a big discrepancy between what the guides say it should be worth and the prices asked for early Fl cars.

The car: 2010 FL vRS Tsi Estate in candy white, with factory xenons, heated seats, park bleeps, maxidot, mdi, light assistant, and sunset glass. I'll leave in the fiscon bluetooth too as it's virtually OE anyway. All other mods will be removed before sale with the exception of the weitecs however these will be re-set to a factory-ish ride height. Condition of the car - stone chipped as you'd expect from the mileage plus a few minor scratches on the plastic interior trim but pretty good overall.

What do you guys think I should be asking for that?

Just to add, its a mid-Feburary 2010 car, so a "59" plate. Two weeks later on the reg date and it would have been a "10".. :wall:

In your favour there tends to be a big drop in values when the car hits 3yr so best get your valuation just after that birthday date. CAP / Glasses etc take no account of it being 1 day or 5 months past it's 3rd birthday.

You can pay for valuations from Glasses etc that take account of your high mileage or go to a dealer and ask for a trade in price. even better get a written quote from webuyanycar. You'll get your motor for about £5.

I've done a valuation on whatcar.com guessing the future mileage at 85k but obviously it's priced as at today's date. Shows trade at £3,860 and Dealer (Retail) at £5,792.

TBH I think I'd be very lucky to buy the car at that trade price, more likely it'd be something starting with a 4 or a 5.

A quick re-check on autotrader shows the LOWEST price FL vRS priced at £9,495 private sale with 55k miles so I think my whatcar price of £5,7 looks very low?

:wonder:

I think you will find this across the range the tradin values on offer and the asking prices at dealers is seeing a very large spread.

I guess if business is slow they have to make up the numbers somehow.

It is almost as if there is some kind of cartel.

Yup big gap between forecourt prices and trade in. If they're selling you'll get told it's a desirable car that holds it's money well, it you're selling you'll get told no one wants a big petrol.

Don't even bother with webuyanycar.com. Their quotes are stupidly low -- I wanted a price when I sold SWMBO's Leon TDI (52 plate) and they offered me £650. Sold it privately within a week for £2450.

Mike

somebody has to pay for those frickin awful adverts :giggle:

Why not advertise it for £6500 ono and take closer to 6?

If its been looked after then people will pay for it ;)

I could be seriously interested in this - with mods. Just trying to shift my current car - which is proving difficult... :wall:

No worries - when I know what I'm doing (and when) I'll drop you a PM.

CAP Black Book is better than Glass's for valuations of higher mileage cars. Pop in to a dealer or two and sweet talk them in to showing you the book value from CAP.

Cheers a PM at the relevant time would be appreciated;

plus some details on the mods etc if you have time.
