Heater Hot when Cold (and occasionally noisy)

Featured Replies

Hi.

Was using my air con quite a lot last week (on hols) and noticed a few times that despite it being set at the lowest temperature it shoved out full heat when the car was started after a rest, Had to twiddle the heater knob to hot then cold a couple of times to reset it. Hasnt done it since. Any ideas what might be wrong?

*edit*

Also noticed it is making quite a bit of noise sometimes. Like the pump is overworking.

Don't think anything is wrong, aircon takes a few mins to cool down. I guess when you're parked the fluid heats up and it has to cool it again.

Agree with Bryanb - the system needs to get rid of the heat that has built up before it can produce cool air.

Also, I remember a post in the Fabia section where the owner found the aircon produced the coolest air with the control set one click above the coldest setting. I have reproduced this only intermittently in my Roomy.

I noticed that too.

Is the noise a new thing or was it there originally? When does it happen? Switching on? while running? intermittent? You tell us.

The noise could be the bearing in the compressor on its way out. They seem to have a shorter life when only used occasionally.

Also remember that if the weather is hot then the metal in the car is hot. That is why it is warm air for a short while. This was normal when I worked out in the Middle East.

I happens roughly every third of fourth trip that uses the aircon, not at the start but after it has been running for a bit. Turning the system off and on again(via fan or button) fixes it. It seems (all though I am not convinced) to be related to engine speed. The car is 2008 but has only done 10k if that has anything to do with it.

Well take a look here. It has to be with a/c sound.

But I think the sound you describe is not the same as mine, even though "my" sound occurs when temp is above 30 degrees centigrade, two weeks ago temp was up to 43 in shadow places.

My previous Fabia MK1 (1.2 Htp 2006) used to produce a sound like KKRRRR. That sound was continuous and really annoying, I got the car to independent workshops and to dealership and they diagnosed faulty compressor. Then I visited another independant workshop and I asked for a/c cooling liquid (freon) check. It was almost empty. After refilling the liquid the sound disappeard. Mechanic told me that this liquid incudes an lubricant to lubricate the compressor. Give it a try, it was only 40 euros out of my pocket.
