ASR light

Featured Replies

I've looked through the previous forum posts - if I've missed the answer to this question let me know.

When I put the ignition on the ASR light illuminates and goes off when I start the engine. 4.8 miles later ( it doesn't seem to be a time issue only a distance covered one) the light comes back on - this happens every time the engine is turned off/on. The ASR system works really well so I'm not worried especially but is there a way to sort this out? A local garage checked it with their computer and couldn't find a problem and the disks hav been replaced.

Any suggestions guys?

You're definitely sure it doesn't happen after 10 minutes?

Get it scanned properly, your local garage may only have a generic engine scanner which probably won't be able to to do your ABS module. Sounds like a similar issue a mate of mine had on his 307, which was a faulty ABS sensor.

I always thought the light came on after 6 miles or so. Since you asked the question about "You're definitely sure it doesn't happen after 10 minutes? I checked again over the course of a couple of days and guess what - the only consistent factor is that it is pretty well bang on 10 minutes every time.

So thanks for asking the question - the answer is yes - it is after 10 minutes. So what does that tell me?

DFM signal wire to the alternator is broken and/or corroded.

Have a search, well covered.

I love this forum - does anyone happen to know the rating of this wire so I can go buy some

It's not carrying any current so nothing beefy.

I used some speaker/bell wire. Been fine since doing mine about 12 months ago.

Thanks - off shopping tomorrow followed by a bit of grovelling under the car

You sure you didn't just accidentally switch it off? ;)

Ddefinitely didn't switch it off - except when I tried to see if that made any difference to the on/off time
