Faulty automatic central locking

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I recently joined the forum as I recently purchased a Mk1 Octavia 1.9TDI estate. Apologies for any n00b mistakes!

I have a problem with my central locking that I hope some of the wise folk here may be able to help me out with. After unlocking the car, all doors lock after 30 seconds even if the driver's door is opened. I first discovered this when I unlocked the car, got in, shut the door and then found myself locked inside and couldn't get out.

Autolocking will enage if I open the boot and all other doors except the passenger driver side door. Perhaps there is some faulty wiring somewhere? Or something else?

Any suggestions/comments gratefully received!

Cheers

James

I've done a little more investigation (that merits a bump I hope :) )

All door microswitches appear to be operating in that interior lights come on and the door open light will come on on the dash. So I'm thinking that there must be either an error with the hw (faulty wiring to the relevant module) or perhaps this is a sw bug in the engine management system. A VAG com could tell me that I think...

I'd hazard a wild card at a part called the central convenience unit? Seems to cause all sorts of gripes with electrical parts

Thanks for the tip. I've done some searching on CCU/M and yes, it does seem to be the root cause of lots of similar issues. I've ordered a VAG-com cable and will have a bit of a poke about.

Ah, now the interior light isn't illuminating when the driver's door is opened. So I think the problem is probably corroded terminals in the driver's window module. Off the door will come!
