I can't for the life of me get a pin-sharp header!

Featured Replies

This is not quite car related but please could somebody help? I am working on my website and I can't for the life of me get it pin-sharp when I upload it on Prestashop. Every other banner is pin-sharp at 72dpi (see above Briskoda banner) yet mine looks as sharp as a blunt pencil. I am using Photoshop CS6.

If posting link to my own website is against forum rules I do apologise, but this is the mess I am getting....

What I want are nice crisp blocks of colour with pin-shapr text. Any ideas?

p.s. the website is a work in progress.

It might be something to do with the colours (too big a range) I'd use the 'Save for web' option in Photoshop -this will reduce the resolution and the colour palette -best get it looking good at low res there before you upload it.

What level of compression are you using on the JPEG? looks a bit blocky for my tastes which may be making it look a bit blurry. It's also way over-sharpened which is, ironically, making it appear soft to the eye.

CS6 will have a few options in the text dialog for the font too - None, Sharp, Crisp, Strong & Smooth. It may be worth trying a different setting depending on the font and size to get the tagline looking a bit crisper without over sharpening the whole image.

I'd go with what Mort said :)

3 things:

When you're resizing it ensure you're using the most appropriate resizing algorithm. If you're not sure, just try using each and see the results.

Save them in web safe colours. Browsers will render them with far greater accuracy.

Save it as a png.
