iphone virgin..

Featured Replies

After years of Nokia's i moved onto the Andriod and these are very good but they phone (Galaxy II) is letting the system down.

Im after the iphone 4 (not fussed about the 'S' for now) so obviously looking for one second hand.

What price should i be looking at and are they as easy to unlock as any other phone?

Mind the 4 won't get a load of features in the upcoming IOS upgrade (included turn by turn nav for one). Also the iPhone 5 is slated for September (rumours - nothing from Apple) release so a 4 will plummet in value after the new phone is released.

As for unlocking, there are plenty of places that seem to do it, however mine was unlocked by O2 for free half way through my contract so I'd be wary of any which are locked.

As for price, I've been watching ebay as I've been looking to get rid before the value plunges and they're selling for about £260 for unlocked in decent nick with no warranty. I got £220 from Simply Drop (Royal Mail phone recycling) for mine.

Why not try a HTC instead? I find them a lot better than the Samsungs.

HTC are pants!

Em I'd hold out for a 4S or even wait for the rumoured 5...

I love my HTC :)

Best phone I've ever had!

The only reliable way to get an iPhone unlocked is through the network it was originally supplied by.

Some shops will do it through a jailbreak but that's not necessarily permanent, especially if you want to upgrade the software.

I don't recommend buying an iPhone more than one generation old, and the new model is due to be unveiled on the 12th september. If you aren't in a desparate rush then it might be worth holding off for a month as you'll pick up a 4S more easily then as people look to upgrade.

In terms of looks and use there's minimal difference between the 4 and 4s, but as has been mentioned there are some iOS 6 features that won't be available on the older handset.

The 5 (or whatever they call it) looks pretty interesting. It's the same screen width but taller, and it's a nice slim design. I'll be getting mine ASAP.

I think you might be exaggerating just a smidge there.

Except all those "pictures" are no more than guesses. :) It may or may not look like that. Suspect it will be bigger but sadly iOS 6 doesn't really bring anything new to the table. (Unless they have something hidden up their sleeves)

I really really don't like it one bit.

There's enough leaked parts now, with just a few weeks to go that we are way past the picture guesses stage.

iOS 6 natively supports the taller screen as well, so I'd bet good money on it being accurate.

Well id be happy to keep my Samsung but its starting to break; freezing, rebooting, crashing, camera not working 100% of the time (it will not focus) and the screen turned purple the other day :/

My upgrade is not due till May and i heard the iphone 5 will not be out till next year, hence why buying a 4 for now as im starting to lose my temper with the Samsung.

Iv had a HTC, LG before and i thought they were even worse. The idea of the phone and what they can do it brill, its the fact they cant do it! They just seem crash by just looking at the task in hand

Plenty of leaked stuff for the iPhone 4s, all were wrong. :giggle:

Sounds like you need one of those tough phone such as the jcb one lol

No they weren't. Some thought there would be a tapered design but that was based just on Chinese case manufacturers and were obviously wrong. With about a month to go there were photos of the shell of handset that were spot on.

I'm willing to take a bet that this is accurate, and that it will be unveiled on the 12th September.

Then claim it under warranty?

If they say it's out of the warranty period, kick off about the goods not being of satisfactory quality and you'd expect a mobile phone to at least last the length of the contract.

(2A)

For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.

Going to agree to disagree, they were wrong, everyone was expecting iphone 5. :)

That's just a small difference in how they market it though.

It was the 5th generation iPhone, and it looked exactly like the leaked parts, and had pretty much exactly the predicted specification. I doubt anyone refused to buy it because the label said 4S instead of 5.

Based on them calling the third generation iPad "The new iPad" instead of iPad3 there's a chance that it will be called "the new iPhone" instead of iPhone 5, but it will still be the new Apple iPhone and will be launched on the 12th and will look just like the leaked parts.

All the leaks predicted a new phone and they released one exactly the same looking.

Either way I hope it's a big jump and not what's being touted. Also hope there is more to iOS 6 as it looks pretty lacklustre so far.

Months in advance there were various suggestions about what it would look like, many of which were wrong, but with a month to go the reports were pretty much spot on. The articles are there for all to see on the various news sites like macrumors.

Ok.

Don't forget TUAW.

Very odd behavior and certainly not typical. However, they do come with a 2 year warranty so if it's defective, return it and get a replacement.

You can get a faulty handset for any manufacturer remember - no manufacturer is perfect (contrary to what some may say !)

How about going back to Nokia - the Lumia WP range.....
