1.8t 4x4 mk1 octy RARB woes :O(

Featured Replies

Went to fit my shiny new Neuspeed rear anti roll bar tonight and it doesn't fit :|

It was listed for TT/R32 and is 'supposed' to fit the octy but doesn't have the bend to clear the spare wheel well...! Has this been noted before? Is my RARB wrong or was it never going to fit anyway??

Going to give Awesome a buzz tomorrow to sort but i was sooooooooooooo looking forward to having in on the car :'(

Need a hammer m8, a few wacks on the wheel well and it'll fit

Reckon a 1/4 pound lump hammer would be best looking at the pic lol

That advice from experience? lol

Did wonder if the plastic handle on the tyre retaining thingy was going to break, it had become a little tight

You do know if you had let a lil bit of air out of the tire, it would of come out easier? lol

The whole threaded shaft had twisted enough to make it very tight all the way out, rather just the pressure of the tyre lifting it - v.soft steel

Now that's gash

Think i'll cut a bit out of the well and weld in a section of tube cut/sized to suit.

Nah all you need is a thick enough metal bar and hold it in the same place while smacking it with a hammer lol

who cares what it looks like?

It's more a case of what you're doing to the car. I personally think it's a bull$h!t thing to have to do to your motor, and an insurance assessor would most certainly agree with me.

I can just imagine it now, when on the phone to your insurance company...

"Have you performed any modifications to the vehicle sir?"

"Well, I have to beat the living cr@p out of the floorpan with a lump hammer in order to fit my aftermarket sway bar..."

Yeah, that's gonna go down real well!

That's just put me off the Neuspeed, Whiteline is out already due to the bodge method of mounting (bought one, wasn't happy, sold it on), hmm, what's left...

Thanks for posting though, you've just saved me a few quid on something I would most definitely NOT be happy to do to my car.

Maybe a little OTT there

This only applies to the Octavia 4x4

The ARB kits sold as for the Octavia 4x4 are actually R32 kits

iirc Bora 4mo's have to do the same mod

Phew! There's a relief.

That R32 well looks real neat, but I'd be at a loss as to what to do with all my emergency tools...

Seriously though, if you go out of control and a death occurs as a result, things like that will drop you right in the brown stuff.

The octy 4x4 wheel well doesn't have those foam insert with tool holders either

List in my modified vehicle report as "uprated front and rear arbs', bushings and modifications to fit" ;)

But those modifications still have to be deemed to be structurally sound. And hitting it with a hammer and bending the poop out of the pan isn't exactly what you've disclosed.

I don't think it is that much different to the stupid mechanics that jack the car up by the floorpan and bend it inwards. I doubt the rigidness of the car has been changed and the fact a beefy thick RARB is now in place the car is more stiffer.

And as stated with a 2WD octy no need mod the wheel well.
