Oil Change - Dealers Surprised Me Greatly

Featured Replies

Was going to my factors this morning to buy my oil and filter for my 7k change.

Always ask for 5w40 fully synthetic with vw 505.01, this costs £28 + VAT for about the cheapest correct spec oil I have seen. And filter was £7 +VAT total near £32

Out of interest on way through to perth i stopped in at the skoda dealers in burrelton, and asked about theyre oil. They had 2 types of oil on offer: long life or normal

The normal was a 5w-40 fully synthetic with obviously the spec i wanted and were asking £6.50 per litre, only ever get 4 litres in to hit top of hatch markings on dipstick so just bought my usual 4 litres = £26 VAT inclusive

And the filter was in stock and plentiful and cost £7.06p VAT inclusive.

So it was about the same to get proper stuff from dealer than factors, plus saved fuel as its only 5 miles away but perth or dundee are best part 20 miles.

This will be my new source. Anyone else use the skoda quantum 5w40 FS for changes?

I always use it. Cheap and it seems to be good too.

I have yet to test it, tomorrow i will know. I notice even the most minute of changes in my car (noise and drive) so will tell quite quickly. Just found it hard, until now to find 505.01 oil, the labelling is so poor in most cases

I always get mine from the dealers costs me under 30 quid for 5 litres of oil, filter and sump plug.

Be cheeky and ask for a discount, my dealers always gives me one plus they do a briskoda discount too!

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

never thought of that, however the guy i dealt with was highly inept and as he came out of parts department with filter i saw the box and said "that aint it" he said "it is" me:"its not you know?" him:"im telling you it is". It was about half of the height of mine.

Anyhow i spotted a tall box on the shelf and said i bet thats it! He brought it out and punched in number on system, and my engine code appeared. mmmmmmm

By this time it was half hour passed and i was wanting to get on, but will try briskoda discount next time

TPS in Edinburgh. £15 for 5 liters of Quantum Platignum oil.

Cheers, Terry

1.9 ALH doesn't need 505.01, it's not a PD engine.

However it will do it no harm.

All of my research brings in the 505.01 as for my engine and ALSO pd engines. Non 505.01 on the alh engine has been attributed to accelerated cam lobe wear. I also read 505.01 is minimum required for pd, and that 507.00 is the prefered. Not sure how accurate this is but I did read every possible reference on oil specification i could find and this was the general consensus.

As the alh was changed very little when converted to commonrail type, the parameters for the turbo and valve train lubricity still require a simar spec.

Not doubting your knowledge mate, just explaining my conclusion for 505.01 use. At least as you say it will do no harm.

Yeah it will be fine.

I think spec is still 501.01 which is 10w40, always used to be.
