engine bay

Featured Replies

Been looking into silicone piping for boost pipes but until i can do it properly thought id attempt to paint them along with other things in engine bay.

Your think you cant paint rubber it will crack, well after some ebay searching i found a cheap and easy way. Everything can be found at bandq.

Simply get some multipurpose silicone sealent mix it with white spirit till get a thin paint consistancy, and paint colour of choice mix well and paint a thin layer. Get hair dryer out and do this about 4 to 5 times till you cant see the black of the oem pipes. Leave to dry over night once its back on car and you run it in the heat shrinks it to original pipe.

Photos wen phone works.

sounds like a bloody long-winded way of colouring pipes that you intend to change to 'proper' silicone pipes anyway IMHO. Also I'd be wary about using white spirit on rubber hoses, even if it is mixed with what, essentialy, is designed to seal the kitchen sink. But that's just my opinion :)

Took me about half an hour to mix and paint. Plus struggling to find colour silicone i want. And trying to find a way to use original bayonet couplers rather than paying £20 -30 each for them. For the purpose i used it for white spirit shouldnt effect the rubber at all.
