Good Price Or Not

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a 61 plate skoda Octavia Vrs petrol in Silver registered in september 2011 from a Skoda dealer in manchester and it will cost £14,995 and has done 6000 miles, do you think this price is ok?

The reason for buying a petrol version is that I only do about 4k - 4.5k miles a year and cant really justify a diesel and I have been looking all over the internet for a pretty new petrol version and the choice seems to be limited and mostly diesel version available at garages across the country.

That sounds about right for the age, maybe a little cheap for main dealer.

I have a 12 plate petrol that I'm going to sell privately, as I was offered 15k part ex, which takes no account of the 3.5k of extras I added! I would rather give someone else a chance to have it for the that, as I know they plan on selling it for 17.5k, which makes your 14995 look good.

Just bought my September 2011 Petrol vRS with 9K on the clock at my local main dealer for a fraction under that.

Be cheeky and offer £14.400 and see what they say. at the end of the day it's your money, but dont wind them up and be willing to move your offer up a bit if they come down. Me and my wife have learnt the hard way when buying cars, not for being cheeky, for the price we paid for a car and not pushing for money of. and the mk3 is on the way next year. auto express now have 2013 at the rear of the magazine for new octavia release.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for getting back to me, I have a 2008 ford focus to part exchange with 17000 on the clock from new and fsh but the guy did see that they will come and go on the price and give us the best part exchange they can offer, so I am going to email some pics tommorrow and see what they say. I have been offered £5600 in part exchange at my local dealer against a £15000 diesel vrs so will wait and see what they offer.

Sounds a good price on the face of it, but if you're going with a PX then don't get hung up on either value; the part exchange price or new car price.

Just focus on the 'cost to change' price. It's helpful to stick to this in your mind. Also helps minimize the games dealers often play in tweaking either price in a bid to make the deal appear more attractive ;)

Hi Wardy,

Thanks for the info, I will be looking at the bottom line and trying to get close to 9k as possible but as you know they will try to get my car as cheap as possible, so as to max there profits. They will then stick £1K on my car and still have at least £1K on the vrs, so plenty for them but I will try my best fingers crossed.

what extras are fitted to the car if any.

The extras fitted to the car is maxidot and the columbus satnav all for £14,995 on a 61 plate registered dec 2011 and here is a link to the car what do you think.

Set your maximum 'cost to change' and stick to it - before you go and drive the car.

I will guarantee that once you sit in it the 'new car mist' will descend and you'll want it whatever the cost!

Always remember that there are others out there, you don't have to have this one.

The dealer should however be congratulated on the pictures, they are very good.

That's not a Columbus sat nav ;-)

Drive The Deal are doing brand new unregistered petrol vRS's for £15,700.

That makes the £15,000 your dealer wants for their 12 month old, 6,000 mile used vRS not so good.

Skoda went through a shortage of the stand fit Bolero stero's last year and fitted the Amundsen sat nav units as a free upgrade instead.

I have been reading loads of threads on this forum and I did come across a member talking about drive the deal price of £15,745 and it does look very good but I will still have to add metallic paint on and maxidot plus a spare wheel so the price will be around £16300 and I would not pay the £15000 asking price of the 61 plate but would make them a lower offer.

I am in no hurry and will keep checking the prices and see what comes up but I must admit the new car price of the VRS is very tempting.

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far I really appreciate all your advise.

The satnav in the picture is the Amundsen.
