Featured Replies

Looks like 1.6km so just short of a mile Phil (0.994 mile). If I'm looking at the right one :)

You're looking at the wrong one. Its 3km long the one near Mimon. ;)

Was built to land space shuttles on during the cold war thing in the 60s I think, Super smooth surface.

  • I won't get 50 @ 100mph However I'm hoping it will be sensible most of the time with the odd bit of fun when the roads are clear. On the last trip, it was surprising how much of the delimited autob

  • True... but who can resist getting your foot down on the public roads when it's legal!? Plus you will probably find you go pretty quick as you spend less time speedo watching and more time just drivi

Cool.

Pretty long then. Should get up a fair bit of speed on there.

Phil

Fair enough. Didn't look that long looking at it on Google Maps :)

But if you've been there before I'll believe you Jason :p

I couldn't get up to and sustain 140mph on a 1.6km runway. :D Not factoring in braking at the end of it..... ;)

Meh... braking's overrated anyhow... :giggle:

yeah they have stopped using the airfield except in emergencies, last i knew anyway. Well unless a spaceshuttle is going to land any time soon ;)

One thing that sprang to mind earlier - is there anywhere out there where you can buy the Mladá Boleslav plate holders?

Can't remember 100% but the shop at the Museum might have them, or the Skoda dealership next door?

Cheers Jason. Wouldn't mind a set if they can be obtained :)

Out of interest has anyone that's going got any breakdown assistance?

Might be worth checking prices with ADAC or something as it's the person that's covered so if someone were to breakdown they could just go sit in the car with them and get them towed etc. Plus very good repatriation, onward travel and accomodation cover with them too.

Just a thought.

gonna call skoda assist today... (the think you get with new car) to see if i'm covered... if not, I'm going to arrange something else

Well if you;re not then don't bother with AA, RAC or Greenflag etc they cost a small fortune. ADAC is about 98 euros for anual worldwide cover.

I checked a map and the extra fuel to detour down there would negate the cheaper price. :D

I'll just stick a tank in in Germany. I would like to do the whole trip on two brimmed tanks. That's the plan anyway....

Cool! Great stuff.

In regards to fuel. Just avoid the motorway services as they are expensive.

Also I think Tues and Weds are the cheap fuel days in Germany.

Phil

Good shout on the motorway services. I have an app on my phone that tells me the best/nearest places off motorways to get fuel. I know some crackers just a half a mile or less off the M5. :D Wonder if the same exists for Europe?

There is at least for Germany.

clevertanken.de. They have an app for android, iphone and windows phone too.

Phil

Going to get the clevertanken app btw (Android). Think it's about £2.

If anyone else is thinking of getting it drop me a PM first.... ;)

Scrap that. I've found a free one that covers UK, Germany, Protugal, CZ etc etc.

Needs a data connection/wifi obviously but I use a German sim anyway so no worries for me.
