4000-5000 mile trip accross europe comming up...

Featured Replies

I think we might do a smidge of Holland, I don't remember.

Looking at a map, traditional route is Dunkerque, Gent, brussels, Aachen, Frankfurt, Wurzburg, Nuremburg, then into CZ - Plzen, Prague,

Yep that sounds about right. Think you just miss the Holland border that way.

Should be a nice drive so long as you don't hit a Stau on the way.

  • I won't get 50 @ 100mph However I'm hoping it will be sensible most of the time with the odd bit of fun when the roads are clear. On the last trip, it was surprising how much of the delimited autob

  • True... but who can resist getting your foot down on the public roads when it's legal!? Plus you will probably find you go pretty quick as you spend less time speedo watching and more time just drivi

Have fun and be careful on the 'Ring. Someone died the day before i went round....Take it easy and enjoy the experience.

I loved it and can't wait to go back.

It was really quiet when i went.....got slowed down waiting for a bike and a GT500 to pass me though and i also passed a couple of cars on the way round.

Mate videod it and it was 11mins. Not bad for a second lap although don't really know what a good time is for a public lap as you have to come on and off on the main straight so can't get up to the top speed like you can on GT5, only managed 125mph i think!

Anything sub 10 minutes is a good lap for a relative newbie. :) I am hoping for around 9 flat if weather and track conditions allow. It is quite possible to do as this will be my 4th trip.

I may follow jason, and assume if he is going to get round the corner , I am! lol..... not that I would keep up on the straights :(

Get yourself a tuning box sorted before the trip. Should help you keep up a bit.

Oil? Who mentioned oil?

It's overrated IMO

Overrated - the 1.4TSI engine seems to think so! :p

Can't get rid of the stuff quick enough!

Make the most of any trip to the ring, the operators have gone bust and it looks like 2012 could be the last ever. The company operating the ring are currently due to go into administration at the end of 2012.

Schade!

I've not even been on it once yet.

Might have to have a go this time round as we are going to be near Koblenz which isn't far at all.

Not Dave's though... it likes oil and keeps hold of it!

Hehe cool.

Pretty sure it will be fine if it's not used a drop to date then there is no reason to think it would suddently start using loads of oil.

I would be intersted to see how the Barums on mine cope on the ring with the car fully loaded with camping gear and our folding bikes!

Might have to try and persuade Sven to let me have a play and do a steady lap round. It's on about 45km's from where we will be staying and we went via it last time we went there but didn't go round as we had to catch the ferry and also had a mismatch of cheapo tyres on (a different brand on each corner!)

I'm still debating whether to do the trip on my race semi slicks. ;)

Put them on a trailer? ;)

Legally your car can tow... unlike the vRS

I've got my eye on 2 sets of R888's on ebay jason, but they are already at circa £200 :( I expect that to go up!

1,150 miles 1 way from Cumbria to mine to Prague Dave. so times 2 and then add about 500 to 1000 miles for getting lost, day trips, airfield and the ring during the trip.

Are we sure we can get on the airfield? Don't forget the police showed up the last time to kick us all off....

They are happy with us on the airfield, they only kicked us off because a plane wanted to use the airfield.

Airfield? Plane? How unreasonable :D

I know. Very inconsiderate!

So basically it is an openly accessible airfield where one can just drive onto? How long is it?

Wish I could do that at Elvington airfield near me (1.8 miles long  ).

Looks like 1.6km so just short of a mile Phil (0.994 mile). If I'm looking at the right one :)
