Ahem, its only about 2,500. :p (1,000 miles door to door for me) So just take half the amount of oil you were going to take. ;)

the prague international meet Phil! :)

Best to just fill up the spare wheel well with oil and plumb it to the oil pump. Should be enough to get you there at least.

Borrow Damo's, that doesn't use much oil :wall:

You might be pushing 3,000 because coming from further away initially. :)

Cool.

Have fun!

When is it btw?

We are going to the mother land beginning of september.

we go on the 13th sept phill :) we'll be playing on the motherlands autobahns ;)

(although mine will, bizarly, be the second slowest car going! :( especiall with 4 pwoplw and luggage in!)

Ah cool.

We will be in Germany at that time still and like in the Mosel region so doubt our paths will cross.

That's depressing but I'm sure you will still be able to keep up pretty well. Dread to think what your economy will be like with all that weight in though...

We have still managed nearly 50mpg out of ours doing silly, silly speeds on the Autobahn and 4 people plus a lot luggage (485litre boot) so knock about 30mpg off that for yours... lol

Worked out we will only be doing about 3000km's in total so not quite as much as you will end up doing.

Hope you have fun!

Phil

I am still aiming for an average 50mpg over the whole 2 weeks, but perhaps not around the Ring. :D

wel the mark II vRS is a jakel and hyde car when it comes to economy , I regulaly get 50 + mpg on my way to work going easy (broke my record last night of 58+ mpg!) but if we are doing 100+mph speeds, I doubt I will get better than 32-35......

I won't get 50 @ 100mph :D However I'm hoping it will be sensible most of the time with the odd bit of fun when the roads are clear. On the last trip, it was surprising how much of the delimited autobahn could not be driven delimited due to traffic/corners. Plus if its raining, the normal 130km/h limit strictly applies, sometimes its 110.

Yeh if you want to have a good run then do it on a Sunday morning when there are no lorries and barely any other cars.

On our way back last time I managed 115 miles in the first hour of driving which included getting to the motoway first of all.

I have found that people are much better at moving over for you to pass them. Probably best to run with headlight/DRL's on as it seems to grab people attention a bit more as they see you rocketing up behind them.

The fastest I have ever been is about 240km/h in a Porsche Carrera 4 S convertible with the top down. That was pretty exhilarating. The fastest I've been in this was 138mph (gps).

What gearbox has the Mongrel got in it? Just wondering what the gearing is like in top gear. Also Dave what RPM does yours do at say 70/80 mph?

Phil

Mine is geared so 70mph = 1800rpm. Any delimited run will probably need to hold 5th gear, rather than 6th :D

Ah cool. About the same as mine then. It was 1900rpm before the gearbox rebuild but looks more like 1800rpm now. Need to check it next time with torque and my bluetooth dongle.

I think that's where I went wrong last time when trying to beat my record. I had more weight in the car than the previous time and left it in 6th but it refused to do any more than 128mph. Just sat at 128mph and refused to budge any more.

Just had a read of the Prague thread. Looks epic and wish I was going. What kind of route you taking through Germany?

well Phill, the fun thing about the 7 speed DSG in the fabia II is that the quoted top speed (139mph I think) is in 5th...... I've seen standard cars on you tube pulling higher speeds using 6th ... and a modified car putting out 210+ bhp may even be able to pull top speeds in 7th! :o wouldn't like to think how fast that could be.....

Yeh knew it wouldn't be in 7th at top speed but thought it would be in 6th not 5th.

I'm sure you could get a decent max speed into 6th.

The rated top speed on mine is 128mph and I managed 10mph over that.

I bet you could see 145mph on your gps unit with ease.

Like I said before. If you're out on a sunday morning that's the best time. We had clear roads for miles and miles and I actually went flat out at 128mph for quite a prolonged time on a nice bit of straight and even road.

Just be ready to still be passed by some of the bigger boys even at these silly speeds. Been passed loads of times even while doing over 120mph. One of them was Sveb's step dad on his bike (can't remember what it is) that has a top speed of about 180mph. He passed me like I was in reverse. lol

as jason said, we may not go mad on the autobahns anyway... we do have a trip to the airfield, and the nurburgring too ;)

True... but who can resist getting your foot down on the public roads when it's legal!?

Plus you will probably find you go pretty quick as you spend less time speedo watching and more time just driving to the conditions and keeping up with the traffic.

I'm just glad I have managed to fit my cruise control now. Will be a big help. Guessing yours has cruise right?

At least you avoid Holland. They can't drive for toffee and pull right out on you and don't speed up. They also undertake a lot and drive very very close to each other. The German border is always a warm welcome when driving from Rotterdam/Zebrugge.

Phil

I think we might do a smidge of Holland, I don't remember.

Looking at a map, traditional route is Dunkerque, Gent, brussels, Aachen, Frankfurt, Wurzburg, Nuremburg, then into CZ - Plzen, Prague,

Hope you all have fun chaps :)
