Red Oil Pressure Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

My wife went on a long journey of several hundred miles recently in our Fabia Classic 1.4. When almost back home, the oil pressure warning light came on with an audible beep. I checked the oil, but it is clean (it was replaced recently) and near the maximum mark.

I have read various comments on this website about the possibility of the problem being the oil pressure sensor. I removed this sensor from the front of the engine, and sure enough it was soaked in oil, as was the plastic cap.

I changed the sensor for a new one, cleaned the oil out of the cap as best I could, and refitted it, checked the sensor was tight and not leaking, started the engine up... ...and the red warning light still came on.

Does anyone know if maybe I need to change the cap as well, or whether perhaps the problem might lie elsewhere?

I would be grateful for any ideas.

Thanks for your help!

Could be a blocked oil pickup from the sump? That would give you correct level, but could be restricting the pressure that the oil can be pumped around at. Common problem on the VAG 1.8T I think, I dunno whether it affects other engines but since they all have some kind of oil pickup, it's likely...

i had the same problem yesterday my sensor was full of oil and the plug was covered too i had some electrical cleaner i got mine form a auto factors near me

i cleaned both parts and started the engine ran ok for a while then light came back on so checked again full of oil so new sensor fitted and cleaned and the conector wire with cleaner and but back together all ok now

clean the conector with electrical cleaner your plug could still have oil in it causing the fault hope this helps

Thanks for your comments. I'll try the electrical cleaner first and see how it goes.

If it has oil in the connector this can only come from one place, through the switch.

The switch has failed, replace it.

Can anyone throw light on exactly where the sensor is on a Fabia 1.4 Comfort please so i can change it myself.

it at the front of the engine right hand side as you look at the engine not the one next to the ol filter the it has got just a thin wire going into it got a gray plug on it hope this helps
