momentum is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Like George says : a higher octane rating is prefered for the Twincharged TSI-engine.

Most high-pressure turbo/supercharger cars and highly-tuned NA-engines do gain benefits from the higher octane-rating that can be gained from petrol / ethanol.

I do however have a "tiny" grudge against piggyback-systems... but that another story :p!

well thanks everyone looks like momentem has a thumb up, the way to go at the moment as v-power is through the roof, cheers everone and sorry to the boys who can only get 95 ron.

The Engine Management light ie exhaust gas thingy came on (in the HTP), tried to clear the engine out with a bit of zooming but put some 99 Momentum in and light gone out again!

Use it in the Fabia VRS all the time and am please with it, Shell V Power good too and maybe worth a few P more now and then. All the 97 octane ie most of the rest I avoid.

Use it in the Octavia TSI VRS just occasional to let the additives give it a clean through but will probably use 99 more now it approach 50K miles and needs a bit of help!.

Jason Plato seems to go alright on it!

I bet even the 95 isn't cheap on Lewis!

Only 1.45 a litre :p

Haven't done the same trick in the vRS, but the Scirocco (1.4 twincharger) did about 7-10% better mpg on Momentum than any 95RON - plus drove smoother and possibly quicker. Sure didn't like it when I threw some 95 in it... Seemed equally fine on other "Super Unleaded" brands but just that bit better on Tesco special. Its also my closest petrol station to home which is a bonus.

97+ all the way for the vRS - currently running on a fresh tank (44.3 litres...) of German Shell V-Power Racing (whatever that means); we'll see how that does through Belgium and France tomorrow!

I did hear a rumor that some filling stations do "race fuel" at 102ron that's twice the price and you need to unlock a special pump for. This is probably internet ****** though

No clue, but its about 30 cents more than either 95 or E10...no special unlock needed :)

Maybe 'ring folklore?

Yes some petrol stations are selling 102ron and some morrisons were/are selling e85, if you read about e85 fuel it makes you wonder why we are not using it on a daily basis to replace unleaded

With a Google you will see that 102 RON 'was available' at South Queens Ferry, handy for Knockhill

(Forth Bridge South Side) and other places & still is in other places.

Race Fuel is always available really.

No advantage in using in a standard vRS or others, unless they need 102 RON or similar.

More or higher numbers is not always better. (this is true in life with many things)

98 & 99 RON is usually available,

and higher numbers 'RON',

do not mean you need to use or will give improvements, unless you have the set up that requires this!.

Run Gas/NOS if you need that short Boost!!

it will work out cheaper.

Allmost always using Aral ultimate 102 . But Mostly Shell optimax 100

UK is different possibly from Mainland European countries,

Your car might be running different Plugs!

UK, Shell 'V Power' 99 Ron (is it still or 98 RON now?) or BP Optimax ? or Tesco 'Momentum 99 Ron'.

Dunno what stickers you have in your fueling-cap in GB, in mine it reads clearly "Minimum 98 octane".

Higher RON-numbers mean in this case that you will gain benefits from it as the engine was designed for it.

Seems pretty obvious too me?

EDIT : recommending NOS-systems just seems stupid and unhelpful, but then again... I've seen your posts ;).

The Fuel Flap sticker here has Minimum 95 RON,

& the Recommended is 98 RON.

(says 95/98 so not really clear here or even in the 'owners manual' or VAG brochures were it just says 'Min 95 RON' or

'95 RON petrol'

& it should say 'requires 98 RON')

The 'standard' vRS is not performing/running better with 102 RON as available here.

& i know this because, i have had it on the Dyno, (that is standard as in ECU & Plugs/coils)

NOS, was an attempt at humour, but obviously a 'fail'.

The work out cheaper bit, was not an attempt at humour.

?Can i ask,

What state of tune are you running now, & what fuel is it that you use,

& what 1/4 mile times are you doing ?

I HAZ NOS, ME SO FAST!

I've been preparing for a baby, so the tuning has had to been hold back...

What does that have to do with RON?

And yes, they are cushions... And REALLY comfy aswell!

Edited by Confide

^hahah are they cushions?

found them on ebay quite expensive but look cool.

Yeah NOS is a stupid idea , this is a mates 2.7 Rover 827 , runs 13 second 1/4 's but weighs as much as a small house
