Brake light comes on intermittently

Featured Replies

Some times when I start my car up I get a beep and my brake warning light comes on. As I say, it's only intermittent and the brakes are working fine.

I've checked my brakes and I have loads left on the pads.

Could it be a dodgy sensor?

Thanks

Are your brake lights working ok??

Could be the brake light switch....

.

Brake fluid level?

Wear indicator is only on the inside pad on the FNS, if if you had a sticky calliper you might have worn that pad down.... Although I would expect the indicator more when braking than when starting the car, so I fluid would be my guess.

Cheers, I'll check both the brake lights and fluid; although I'm sure they are both OK.

The light has come on whilst I've been driving once, but it's mainly when I first start it up.

I'm guessing the only way to check my pad is to take off the NS wheel and look at the depth left.

+1

the liquid is low

I had this on another make of car when the insulation was rubbed through on the brake pad sensor wire, effectively grounding it intermittently.

OK, so I checked the sensor (which wasn't actually connected - so I taped it up to stop it shorting out) checked the level of fluid which is fine and the light is sill coming on every now and again!

Anyone got any other ideas? There's nothing wrong with the brakes, and it's getting really annoying...

Someone mentioned the brake sensor? Where is this, and how will I know if it's working?

Cheers!

See post #3 above, its on n/s/f pad.

If you're not using the sensor, the pins on the connector need to be shorted out.

Cheers, I've just managed to sort it. Did all the above and still didn't sort it.

Turned out to be a dodgy brake light bulb. Replaced it and it's fine!
