Got a service plan? Dont be messed about!

Featured Replies

Booked car into garage for MOT and service last week, they had a slight problem locating my service plan that i had purchased earlier in the year from a different garage (both main dealerships) This problem was quickly resolved as one dealership spoke to another in order to get it on the system, went ahead to book the car in.

Rocked up at 9am this morning, dropped the keys off and straight away was told that i would have to pay for the MOT, no this is not right, i purchased both MOT & service together, they insisted they would sort it out, ok went away with the loan car.

Some time later phone call, there is no service plan on your car, it says it is 'expired' (impossible, was only bought in Jan 12) so we quickly came to conclusion the car would not be MOT'ed or serviced today as they needed to contact Volkswagen finance and sort it out, unless i wanted to pay for it (erm, no) this will take a couple of working days. This is no good, im working full time and cannot just drop everything when they have a gap, hence why it is booked in on my days off.

My service plan is finally located, basically they previous plan was over lapping this one was saying access denied. Now im not quite sure who to blame as this is down to simple human error which i understand these things happen but i am grateful to one member of staff who took the time to get this sorted, needless to say no apology from offending dealership who made the mistake.

Just a word of warning, please make sure your pre-paid service plan is good to go before you drive X amount of miles to the dealership on your only day off and have your whole day wasted and return home with no new MOT or fresh oil.

Tut tut Skoda!

Dealers eh? Well, some of them. I asked for my car to be put on fixed service prior to collection and took out a 2 year service plan anyway, some time later when I checked it obviously hadn't been set up on fixed service as after 5000 miles it was saying service due in 14000 miles so, I rang and was told that just book it in at 12 months and they'd change it to fixed then.

Car went in the day before it's 12 month birthday and was with them from about 09:30 however, at about 2pm I get a phone call from the service desk chap to say "we can't switch it to fixed service because of the contract that it's on with VW finance", "er ... are you joking it's not on a contract, I bought the car outright" I reply "that's not what it says here" they reply "well you need to get it sorted and it needs to go on fixed or I'll be speaking to your MD and SUK" and with that off tootles the 'I can only do what the system tells me service guy only to ring me back 10 minutes later to say "we've sorted it, the system was giving us misleading information because your car is on a private plate" :wonder: needless to say it's going somewhere else for it's second service as this isn't the only issue I've had with that dealer.

Well this is my second dealer after the first one washed their hands off my car after the DMF was showing signs of failing. The dealership did eventually get the problem sorted but i purposely rang up about 3 prior to my car been booked in to make sure everything would go ok on the day as my days off are limited and the dealer is 30+ miles away.

This is the first time iv ever dealt with dealerships, all my other cars i have either serviced myself or have had a personally known independent garage do the work. Main dealers fall over themselfs when it comes to helping you buy your car but soon look clueless when they need to actually get some work done!

Yep, that's what I've found too

And me

I bought my 2 year service plan from DM Keith in York.

My receipt was printed out on that headed dot matrix printer paper that most dealers seem to use.

Stuck it in with the service book together with the glossy service plan booklet and left it on the passenger sea when dropping it off for service.

Just had my second service with no issues at a different dealer. As with most things it seems some dealers are better than others!

I bought mine from D M Keith, what happened is that the car had a service plan on when i bought it and these plans either run on mileage or time, 20,000 miles or two years, well both services had been claimed well before the two year time frame so when i bought the new one this year the old on did not get canceled so the new one did not activate till the old one expired because some simpleton did not cancel off the old one.

And me. Or in my case it was to get cambelt done. Then I returned with a pin hole in a fuel ( low pressure ) pipe. "Needs an expensive part " quotes parts manager ,and service manager . SIL turned up with a bit of flexible fuel pipe. Cured problem,so I toddled off to TPS for what I thought would be a custom bit of pipe. Turns out the parts system says "fuel pipe, cut to size" - So Listers Skoda, I'm not impressed by your vehicle knowledge .
