Have I got the cleanest taxi on here?

Featured Replies

There must be a fair few of us on here (cant beat an Octy for a taxi  ), so thought I would start something off.

I know everyone thinks of taxis as being scruffy run abouts that are there to ferry drunks home on weekend nights, but there must be some owner drivers on here that actually take care of their cars like I do.

So thought I would start a thread to get a look at what you all have.

Here we go then, 2006 (56) plate 2.0 PD Sport - 113,000 miles on

Post what you have.

Considering how many Octy taxis I've seen which have covered a good 200k fairly trouble free miles, plus the large discount available from te dealers via the taxi scheme, it's no surprise really

whats the taxi scheme is there a link to it online I have never heard of it. My family has been running taxis for years and since 1999 using 1.9TD now 2.0HDI 406's 4 of them over 1.5 million miles one driver almost zero problems freaky but true. First one was a 1996 that covered 85k before odo went too faint to read did a good 80k more before auctioned off was still on original shocks engine running gear etc only things it used was tyres wiper blades and 4 alternator's. Mainly testimony to the good driving manor of its owneroperator.

Thats some taxi and a credit to you my mate is a taxi owner driver his car is tidy but not as mint as yours,i've noticed around here now alot more Octavias and a couple of Superbs being used as taxi's maybe they'll start to become as popular as the flood of avensis taxi's we have here, my mate runs a C5 estate which as just been bumped and his loan car was an Octavia and he was well impressed saying it will be his next taxi purchase

mine has 120,000 miles on it and still tight as a drum pull's like a train and will be sad to see it go and soon when i get a new octavia P8191028.jpgP8191031.jpgP8191030.jpg

I hope that temporary rear number plate isn't rubbing on the bumper

I thought it was common knowledge - maybe it is only for larger fleets. I'll PM you........

iv heard from some of the taxi drivers in my area say that the battery in the mk2 Octavia aren't as good as the mk1's cause the mk2's battery doesn't cope as well with the meter, radio and computer my private hire Octavia is on its 2nd battery and the car is 4 years old is this true?

My last octavia was a 1.9 tdi classic shape, battery only lasted 2 yrs.

This one on my 2.0 sport is 6yr old and still going strong.

I think alot of the time it's either luck of the draw, or the way people use them.

Like if I'm sat a while on the rank I won't have the radio on/interior fans on things on charge etc etc, cos its drawing loads out the battery.

That is a nice looking car. All credit to you if its a taxi. If you remove the taxi plate and didnt tell us I dont think anyone would even think it was a taxi. I wouldnt.

Is it just me that thinks the mileage the OP has done is low for a 2006 taxi? (113,000 miles)

Thats only 18,000 miles a year.

It slightly concerns me because im looking at Octy's at the moment with 100k and more and some of them are 08/09. Ive been told they are not ex taxi's but lease cars. I'm keeping an open mind but I always thoght taxis did a lot more miles.

The reason the mileage is low for its age is that I only bought it 2yrs ago and put it on as a taxi.

Before I owned it it was a lease car to Network Rail.

It was on 68,000 ish when I bought it

Also the fact I'm self employed, and only drive the car for myself and not a company I do alot less miles than the cars owned by taxi company's that are on the go 24/7

That makes more sense. Thats 45k in 2 years. But I would have expected morethen 22.5k a year.

All credit to you it looks a great car

yeah i do the same when im sitting waiting for fares my Octavia is a private hire but

Could well depend on what brand batteries people are using too. Some are better than others :)
