Battery Case

Featured Replies

I had to access the battery for my Fab saloon today, because the battery had discharged completely since i last used it about a week ago (Possibly on the way out as it is four years old) and found that the hinged part of the case had broken off and was now flapping about a bit. Pro temp, I can probably tape it up with some duct tape.

What I'm wondering is can the car be operated without the battery case ?

Would that, or a broken case be a MOT fail ?

Cheers

Most cases are purely cosmetic. As long as the battery can be secured down, it'll be fine.

They are also good for the battery. They migh not look like much but still keep the frost off and keep some of the cold away!

A separate plastic moulding located in the lid of the case on mine has a substantial electrical lead (Red) going in to it - this is a separate lead from the lead that goes onto the positive terminal of the battery. It looks as if this moulding may contain some fuses/Circuit breakers ?

This separate moulding has come adrift from the lid and is also flapping about now - in fact its so badly damaged that I'm beginning to wonder whether someone's been trying to have a go at getting the battery out in a hurry - the car, which has been serviced by a main dealer, is parked in a residents car park out of sight of my place, and for some reason, all the lights covering this car park, which include a council street lamp have been turned-off recently.

Do, by any chance, these cases detriorate badly with age - the car is 9 years old ?

How much do they cost to replace ?

I paid a few quid at a scrap yard for one.

Some models have a small inline fuse box with about 3 to 5 fuses on.

Alot of the ones i see are cracked so must be common. Usually down to it being pulled at rather than removed properly.

One of mine is also cracked but it's ok, maybe a few nylon ties will strap yours back together.
