Substance On Door Hinges And Battery

Featured Replies

My door hinges (on the inside) have got some sort of white-yellowish substance sprayed onto them, which I presume keeps them lubricated. However when I had a look underneath the battery cover (to see what parts I'd missed to get on with the intended ICE install), I noticed the same (in looks) substance over the +ve and -ve terminals. Does anyone have any idea what this substance is, and if I can buy it to apply when it wears out eventualy on the doors?

Q.

My dealer resprayed my hinges at the last service ...

Just good ol' grease - it's part of every service to reapply it, so

you should never need it. It's on the battery terminals to stop

them "bonding" and rusting, you can take the cables off easily.

Ah, thanks Rob, that explains why they are on the battery terminals then :D

I'll just 'remind' the dealer to re-apply grease when it goes in... ;)

Sounds a bit like ectoplasym... Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!! :D

My dealer sprayed the hinges inside the doors - and very kindly oversprayed onto the inside of the doors - made a right mess :(

Ahh, the old days - when you could put your car into the dealer and ask him to grease your nipples.

Nowadays there would probably be some ECU controlling the application of the grease, which someone would no doubt have tweaked (oooerrr, missus - tweaked nipples) in order to try and make the car go faster!!

:D

Q...the white substance is nothing other than white grease and is applied via a spray tin. White grease is readily available.:)

Thanks Mark :)

I wonder why they didn't opt for the black grease though ? ;)

There is only one true colour grease should be, and that's light yellow... :p

Rubbish. It's gold metallic, as in copper grease.

Copper grease is for wussies who need extra lubrication rather than putting effort into things... :p

Rob.

  - now you're getting into a "which colour grease is best" debate. And women get accused of being "colour sensitive" when choosing a car!

Ah, I'm just doing it for the irony... ;)

Rob.

I believe you, honest!! ;)

Do us all a favour and do the ironing instead! :D
