I bought a 2005 skoda Octavia tdi 105 td engine. I was driving it a few weeks and one day it packed in. Rather than bore you with details, I got a new engine from an 06 golf the same engine . I have since got the engine fitted and it is running fine, except a permanent oil light is on and I don't know where to go from here? Can anyone help

Is the pressure switch connected up? Faulty? Have you had an oil pressure test?

Pressure switch has been changed. Oil pressure is being checked this week

Is it possible that the oil pressure in this new engine is normally less than what your old ecu expects it to be? If you get me both engine codes ill check it for you.

Is the warning for oil pressure or oil level?

It's a solid red light. The car is running fine. I've left it sitting half an hour and it stays the same. I'm afraid to drive it incase it wrecks it. I've changed the sensor and it's still the same. Done an engine flush , cleaned the gauze. Only thing I haven't done now is check the pressure so fingers crossed that is ok, but after that I'm lost

OK - you need to get the pressure measured - who fitted the engine?

A mechanic

Was the engine making any knocking noises when you ran it for the 1/2 hour with the oil light on?

A mechanic

Assuming you paid that mechanic and assuming he had the capability to fit the engine I'd be placing the ball back in his court.

I'm sure he'll have a good idea of where to look and what to check/replace.

People are trying to help you, a bit more info wouldn't go amiss

As silver1011 said, get 'the mechanic' to sort it out for you

I'm just looking for a bit of guidance as the mechanic doesn't seem to know where to go next which is a bad sign! I was just hoping someone else may have had the same issue and point me in the right direction. There is no knocking when it's running, he is just afraid to let me drive it incase it blows the engine

As ive already said maybe this new engine is not identical to your old one and uses less oil pressure than your ecu expects to see.

Have you managed to manually measure the oil pressure yet? - what did it read?

Have you tried fitting the pressure sensor from your old engine?

Did you send the engine codes as requested above so they could be checked out?

If you disconnect the oil pressure sender and earth it does the light go out - I don't know how the senders work on these, but that is the old fashioned way of testing that the electrical circuit is OK.

Well the car is running fine and the oil light went out. Problem now is I've got an airbag and engine management light. Can I get rid of these ?

Yes, with VCDS - you need to know why they are on though if they come back

Well, oil light now out, what was the cause?

I think you need to go to a local specialist to get the codes read for the other warning lights. I can recommend JW Service Centre, VAG Specialists in Coleraine, (I've had to use them too many times) bound to be someone closer to you.

Someone who knows these cars will sort out any problem quicker, they know the most likely place to start to search.
