St intercooler upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just purchased an st intercooler to fit to my fabia vrs. I've had a look over a few threads where people have fitted these.

I was going to run custom pipes on to the standard ones to reach the intercooler points.

Has anyone done this before? I've been told you can extend the pipes from the standard intercooler but could do with some pointers of someone that's already done it

Cheers

I picked mine up for £30 on eBay, just pricing up the pipe sizes thanow

that looks a nice fit

My friend has one of these in his garage from when he mountuned his old ST

Worthwhile pointing out the potential issues of fitting these types of intercoolers. Whilst it'll almost certainly help a remapped car keep producing power for longer it probably won't last long if subjected to hybrid or GTB turbo levels of boost.

A remapped petrol might hit 1.4bar boost... On a diesel hybrid you're looking at 1.8-2.2 bar. In short, anything less than a fully metal, welded intercooler is likely to break.

In short, a worthwhile upgrade that'll make a remapped car more fun in the summertime. Just don't go buying one brand new and expecting it to live if you plan on upgrading the turbo.

All IMO.

Cheers man! Hybrid turbo is still a few years away from getting purchased! Just planning on changing to a fmic, better exhaust and a remap. Already got the pd160 intake fitted

just with a remap you can hit 1.8 bar and 2 if your vacuum box is on the flick. i would find out what they are rated to.
