have I ruined my car?

Featured Replies

Well today I decided to put a powerflex dogbone bush into my vrs. But since doin it there is loads of vibration in the cabin at idle and the car resonates at certain point in the rev range!!

When refitting the dogbone I noticed that I had to push the engine and gearbox forward a far bit to line up the bolts.

Its doin my head in so could someone shed light on my problem

Cheers cillian

did you lube the mount before puting the new bush?

Colour?

Im using the red one for diesels on my vrs! Not too bad!

How many miles have you done since you fitted it as they do take a while to settle down, my superpro one took around 500 miles,

The engine is free to move without the bottom mounting fitted

It is to be expected. The link between the engine and the chassis is now less flexible.

Most of the updated dogbone bushes do tend to transmit less vibration after about 300-500 miles.

You have to wait for it to break in. I did mine and the minute I had it on the road it was horrendous! Now its silent.

Yellow bush it was really hard to get the bolts lined up which leads me to believe is somethin wrong

That's alright cause if it stays like this it will do my head in! Thanks lads

If you weren't doing it on a flat and level piece of ground then that could explain why it was difficult to do the bolts up. Personally I feel that it's an all or nothing upgrade; ie do both bushes or just replace with OEM. With both replaced (I did the rear one last year and the front last weekend) things have improved over just the rear. I think that the rear only being done pushes too much force into the OEM front which then can't cope with the added abuse and just shakes around madly. It's true that they do soften with time although not enough IMO if you want a smooth and quiet car at idle. Also, the amount that you preloaded the bush with can have an impact as the greater the preload, the greater the force to compress and so the smaller frequency vibrations are dialled out as much as they otherwise would be.

i see well i have the front bush but i was going to wait till this one loosened up before i fitted it. i dont real;ly mind it but when the spare change in my door card starts hop it gets on my nerves!

along with the rear boot door plastic nearly hopping of its clips. maybe i over tightened the bolt which clamps the two bushes together.....?

You can up the idle speed s touch with vcds. Helps quieten it down a bit

The front bush is what most folks change with no problems, give it time to settle is my advise. Trust me it will settle and actually so much so you forget you ever had vibrations. What you may find is as you have strenghtened that mount bush, if you have any old bushes that are approaching their sell by date you may notice it more, like engine and upper gearbox mounts and subframe / wishbone bushes.

Also did you follow the torque setting for the nut on the dogbone as overtightening it could cause more vibration.

To be honest I didn't torque it knew I should of But I definitely didn't over tighten it I was aware that it would have no flex if I did have that and the bush that is directly next to the gearbox now in so I'm goin to give it time and see how it wears in. Also have all poly bush suspension and I'm happy out with them

just wondering would the diesel mount be softer?

also i noticed that the superpro one has a groove cut out of it where as the petrol power flex has none making it solid. maybe i should change it its still very bad but i love that it makes the gear change sharper???
