Yeti spotting in Wales = 1

Featured Replies

I have just spent the last six days in a rather soggy Wales and on my whole journey from and back to the sun kissed south I didn't see a single Yeti. I DID see a white greenline parked at a rather bizarrely named 'Saundersfoot'. I know our Graham and Mike have them but otherwise I can only surmise they are more rare than rocking horse waste. Having said all that we did enjoy our time in Welsh Wales, particularly a hair raising walk along the Pembrokeshire coast path which we managed in sunshine (although we did get soaked by one sharp shower!). :rain::swear: :sun:  :drunk:

Why is Saundersfoot a bizzare name?

And you've forgotten George Freshacre off your list!!

And there are 2 others here in Llani, and several in Cardiff.

I don't think you were looking properly.

Why is Saundersfoot a bizzare name? Don't you think it is? Who was this person called Saunders and what is the importance of his foot?

And you've forgotten George Freshacre off your list!! Sorry, how could I forget George?

And there are 2 others here in Llani, and several in Cardiff. Must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, didn't see many sheep come to think of it either, suppose they are up north!

I don't think you were looking properly. Hmm, usualy spot a Yeti from some way off much to the amusment of SWMBO ( who wouldn't notice one if it slapped her in the face!)

Sorry but I don't go south of the river - well not in Pembrokeshire. I stay over the north of the Cleddau river, it's much quieter & less commercial than Tenby and Mr Sanders and his foot!

You obviously didn't go into Morrisons in Haverfordwest. It is a Mecca for Yetis, particularly on weekends when this local's silver Yeti is joined on occasion by white, blue, green and black members of the family.

Glad you enjoyed your visit, the weather has been a bit on the damp side for a while now - must be this global warming thingy?

Anyone else due to visit wild Welsh Wales for a bit of wet weather fun?

I spent a week at Summerhill near Amroth recently. Some of the rain was like being hosed with a pressure washer, but did see some sun second half of the week.

One of my early girlfriends lived in Saundersfoot; her dad built clinker built yachts on the harbour side. Oh, memories......................

Glad you enjoyed your holiday, though, even without Yeti spotting. My wife has the same attitude.

A little bit of history for you:

Saundersfoot History

Saundersfoot began life as a few medieval cottages in a forest clearing in Coedrath, a hunting ground of the Norman Earls of Pembroke. Five hundred years later it had grown into thriving coal port with its abundance of anthracite coal, and exported 30,000 tons annualy from its harbour. 150 years on when the coal industry vanished Saundersfoot evolved into the seaside resort we know today.

'Saundersfoote' was first referred to by the Elizabethan Historian George Owen when describing the coal measures of Pembrokeshire, however on county maps from the 16th century it was referred to the village as St. Issells, the name of the parish. A water course paid rent for by Walter Elisaunder in 1332, Elisaunder's Ford may origionally have given the hamlet its name, being shortened to Saundersford.

My visa came through so I was able to go to Wales last weekend......Sunday through to Tuesday spent in the Brecon Beacons.

It rained, and sunned on us

Yes we did visit Haverfordwest last Thursday afternoon (I think!) and the heavens opened! We did manage to walk around the town between drenchings and had a coffee in a funny little cafe that also housed kids painting ceramic plates etc. It wasn't until we walked over the bridge at the bottom that we realised there was a lot more to the town. We were amazed, that when it peed down, the high street was almost like a river and felt really sorry for people walking down the hill on the right hand pavement as they got a head to toe shower as cars went up the hill! The upside was that it was cheap to park.

Glad you made it to the county town. I think I know the Cafe on the hill, nice bright green walls on the way in? Of course Costa gets my custom every time.

Parking for us Blue Badge people used to be free, but they now charge us one hour and we get one hour free. Not sure what I can do around Ha'west for 2 hours

There I told you Morrison's Haverfordwest was THE place for Yetis in Pembrokeshire. The Yeti looks great in this bronze colour.

Just as I was leaving a black one drove in!

Ah, we chose the wrong car park Mike, we parked on the one behind the High Street below the castle and it was absolutely packed with everything BUT Yetis (except ours of course).

Andy, if you ever return to wild west Wales, you can park in Morrison's for free for 2 hours (or so!) Probably why so many Yetis park there? :bandit:

No Mike, it's probably all the tight Cardi's!!

Short arms, long pockets!!
