Screeching Clutch?

Featured Replies

My cluch has started making a screeching noise whenever it gets warm. Took it to the dealer and he said it's standard with octavia's in Greece due to the plastic ball actuator on the metalic pump joint (ball joint) with no lubricant.

So he took it apart lubed it. Didn't change the slightest!

Any ideas?

PS Taking it back for more "investigation" tomorrow.

Same problem here (started actualy when I was in vacation in Greece :) last summer) at 6k, took it to the service, he sprayed something on the clutch and I never heard that sound again (14k for now). BTW, he DID NOT took it apart.

Guess your dealer lubed the wrong piece ....

Squealing clutches in my experience are usually caused by knackered release bearings. Maybe Big K will have something to say here.

only had this once on a montego many years ago.. that was a knackered release bearing... then they said the clutch was worn... hence it cost me a whole clutch in the end.

why on earth would you remove the gearbox to replace the release bearing and not fit a complete clutch kit then ?

I'll have it checked tomorow. Which bearing is this exactly?

cos they were robbing sods and i was 17 and didnt know better.

Is the clutch on the RS the same as that used on the other 1.8T engines or is it uprated in some way shape or form?

Ta.

umm mines downrated by me....

i believe all 1.8t octys have the same clutch.. even 4x4..

in the u.s. the golfs all have clutch probs.. but this may be due to their drag/streetrace pref where as many of us go round corners..

Correct. The AUM, AUQ, ARX and AGU are all mated to the same clutch pressure plate and clutch plate.

Thank you.

Nobody else with some solution??

my solution was to buy a new clutch/flywheel.. always been of the opinion that to attempt to fix something such as clutch / pads/discs was pointless . sorry.
