Anyone decent road trips in the octavia this weekend?

Featured Replies

As its a bank holiday I'm sure loads of us will have been out and about with the family.

Wondering where everyone has been in their octavias this weekend?

We had a drive over the lakes today, went to south lakes animal park and got full on soaked cos it never stopped raining at all lol

But the octavia was faultless as usual, 320 mile round trip averaged 48.9 mpg (5 up and fully loaded)

Sunday - Went to annual school friends reunion in Wargrave near Henley. Going up north up M23, at about 11 am saw aftermath of horrendous crash on southbound M23 near Gatwick - apparently driver stopped in fast lane about 4 am - reckoned to be on drugs and drink. Two cars smashed into his boot. Huge jams almost back up to M25. Very sad.

Otherwise, a very nice BBQ day with friends, in good weather. MPG read out well over 40 in spite of various hold ups, and then cruising at ahem mph.

Burnley to Manchester airport and back

Bank holiday monday in the Lashing rain fully loaded, 101 miles and 43 mpg courtesy of my 1.8 TSI :-)

You really should be taking it easy, we don't want to be doing this all again.

Retirement is a wonderful thing. Bank hols? oiks, brats and rain, no thanks, stay at home and tinker with the bike.

Mid week, now there's nice. Took the little scooter out for a spin, 270 miles and £15 for fuel, Up to Conisborough castle and Tickhill area via Worksop and Dukeries. Back by the Lincolnshire wolds and the new section of the A46 - very useful - and home through Melton Mowbray and Harborough. A very three dimensional bit of tarmac.

As an aside - if I may deviate off topic for a moment - the Websters diary at Saxelbye, is a wonderful place to buy your Stilton. They don't sell less than 1/4 of a full cheese so its quite a piece. However they are so enthusiastic about what they do, tastings of different ages so you get what you like. We took some French friends over and they thought it was wonderful. Totally non industrial, its in a row of old cottages - no sign or anything pushy. Might be an idea to ring ahead first if going. (no relation btw).

I have visited one of the other Stilton diaries and it was less interesting and less passionate than wandering about in the lesser known corners of Dunlop, They only had ready packed for supermarket sized samples in a chiller like on a garage forecourt.

The porsche took in some nice roads around East Cornwall/West Devon on Sunday. Lovely drive up some nice roads, A388 to Callington and on to Launceston. Then back on major road, A30 and diverted for a fatal RTA involving a bike & pillion :( and then another motorbike related accident near Exeter on the same road. :( Not cool.

Nothing this weekend but going on a track day tomorrow at Oulton Park and tracking mates 205 GTI Mi16 and Clio Cup, both stripped and on Inters :p

I must have been tired last night, missed 2 words out the title 'anyone done any' it should say lol

I had to drive from the Merseyside area to Sheffield and back on Saturday. The M56 and M60 were boring, but the A57/Snake Pass section over the Peak District was a great section of road and the scenery was fantastic. I've not travelled that way before and in some villages just before The Peaks, I had issues with a phone that had obviously gotten bored of providing sat nav directions. Right at a crucial point, my phone chose to lose signal and wouldn't come back until I re-started the GPS. This happened twice, resulting in U-turns and some harsh words in the direction of my phone!

Only local for me over the weekend, but off up to Bootle tomorrow on business, first long trip in the vRS so will be interesting to see how it does for fuel on the M-Way cruise.

45ppm claim back so may have some fun as someone else will be paying for the fuel.

Paul

More a week than weekend came back yesterday, Glasgow to Daventry then Southsea in Portsmouth then back to Glasgow, 1000 miles 2.5 tanks of fuel each tank gettin 440 miles before the light comes on averaging 42mpg

Aylsham in Norfolk to Manchester - slowly in traffic - 41mpg out of a tsi vrs! (on the computer anyhow). Not a great drive - just a long one!

Well I made it to Bootle OK (posting this from the Hotel WiFi) first long trip is going well, Ave 43 MPG (on DIS) and got out at the end feeling fine - not at all tired. Conditions were pretty bad on the MWay.

So far impressed, with the car and Columbus.

Paul.
